The Tilted Compilation?

After visiting "book on demand" site www.lulu.com an idea came to be...we vote on the best short stories/poetry that has graced Tilted for its existance and put them in a book for members etc to buy. If you don't know what Lulu is they print books on demand, so theres no upfront publishing cost. Of course I have no idea if anyone would be interested in a colloection of Tilted works, so I don't kniow if its a -good- idea, but its an idea none the less :)

What does everyone else think?

Seer666 10-23-2004 09:50 PM

Hehe. Not a bad idea, I think. If nothing else, it would be fun just to see what everyones' vote would be for.

pottsynz 10-23-2004 10:59 PM

Themselves I'm guessing. haha

I dunno... I think it goes against what many people have come to see in the Literature Forum. It's about learning who you are and expressing yourself in writing.... you're never done growing and stretching your mind. In the same way, I don't think you could ever say there was a "perfect" piece of poetry or a short story. To make a book and include "best of" would send a message, at least to me, that is conflicting with the idea of constant evolution. As soon as we start putting something on a pedestal, we stagnate the potential for change to occur and create something even better. I'd rather see people taking an active voice in the literature of those who post and request comments, hoping that we can all learn from each other, especially when someone writes something that really hits home with you.

For example, K - Wise, even though I haven't seen him in this particular forum until recently(sorry if you have been here and I didn't see!), has really made me think about some of the core essentials of life in some of the stuff he's posted recently. Open dialogue and discussion has as little or as much impact as we allow... and I'd like to say I know more about myself because of this board and the people who have posted and challenged me, or encouraged me to see myself beyond what is comfortable... it is in that uncomfortable writing that hurts that I've grown the most, and seen the world through different eyes. This evolution is so evident in the threads that people have started and kept adding to over time... sometimes I feel like I'm trespassing into someone's soul that they've bared down. There are times of tears, frustration, exultations beyond heaven, love, loss of love... all the emotions that can be encompassed and are part of the act of truly living.

And I just now realized I wrote a novel in what I intended to be a short sentence or two. It's not until you start writing that you realize what's really important to you, since the words just flow out unconciously.

Wow. I dunno what to say. I'm moved. I'm glad that I was able to have some form of an impact on someone with your talents. It is in fact recently that I have started posting in this forum. I posted 1 other piece that you may not know about though. Not really a poem though it's more of a rap song about a girl who I was friends with called
Why'd You Have To Go And Be My Best Friend?. It's long and not very well structured. It got a lot of views but not many replies to it. I think it was 2..yeah 2. I've noticed that a lot though. So my # of posts for this forum = 3. So yeah it is recently that I started putting words in here and you haven't really missed anything. Thank you for your words though. They mean a lot to me. Now I want to write more.

Asta!!

Soinds like a cool idea, I might try and write something worthwhile so I have a shot!

pottsynz 10-27-2004 10:54 PM

The whole voting thing wasn't supposed to be the centre of it, more than just a way to get material for it. Perhaps everyone submitting what they think is their favourite work is better?

I thought it might be a nice coperative thing for us todo and get together as a writing community :)

Seer666 11-01-2004 11:23 PM

Well, I still say I like the idea of a TFP compilation. And I don't think anyone here would be shallow enough to vote themselves in. That said, my vote would have to go to Strange Famous for Would you think this poem is insulting? Needs a better name though, Strange. :)

pottsynz 11-02-2004 01:28 AM

Wow thats great. Definitely gets my vote!
Well..thats our first piece, if the author agrees.
And so it begins!

It sounds like a good idea

pottsynz 11-02-2004 09:09 PM

Lets get the ball rolling then!

Even though I write myself, I don't think that arts & expressions should be voted on here. I have read many other pieces, and they are all wonderful in their own unique way. We come here to express & share. At least, that's what I do.

J.R.V.A. 11-03-2004 02:58 PM

How about if we start a thread of it's own, dedicated to pieces to be submitted by those that wish to do so, for voting on. Then we could all submit pieces, and those that do not wish to participate need not. Then, we could make like a once a week vote, or once every two weeks vote, or something like that. How does this sound?

I write for the sake of writing as well. And when I write, it is for me. But it's nice to share, and hear what people think of your work. This is a cool little way, I think to point out what poems here really touched you in some way. It's not saying that the other work is not good. I've yet to read a bad one here. But some hit you a little harder then others. And heck, I think it would be cool to have a TFP poems book. I'd even say it might be a good way to raise a little extra cash to help this place out. :)
