Everyone must learn to feel emotion and cry
but I did not wish you to learn tears this way
A breakthrough for you at such a heavy cost
How to tell you what this means and why?
So instead a loving kiss I reach out to give
my own tears set free when you grab hold
your pain felt in your fingers as you squeeze
your warm wetness on my hands as you cry
To hold you causes just as much pain inside
Your mommies love you dear and so we stay
holding our hope for you so love blinds pain

minutes lost
from my hand
out of reach
on the ground
the past lies
far from here
places hidden
with no door
windowless
an empty space
is what remains
of this memory
bottomless
not even falling
suspended in air
untouchable now
history etched
words only left
hidden in mire
dim even shined
hopeless

--------------

moonlight bliss drenches the shadow
colors pulled out from hiding in night
lustre and sheen lost in hues of grey
starlight clothes mystery in half-light
a game upon these trusted senses played
the past no longer what was seen to be
creatures new take alive in these forms
a different eye now required to see

-----------------------------------------------

hands run over this ball of glass
surface unbroken by chips or cracks
shifting rainbows dance out of reach
as slight imperfections catch the light
smooth curves unending tease the reach
forever forward this touch will go
these glass walls trap a soul inside
eternity without a hint of freedom

a single word tries to say
exactly what you mean to me
all mixed up in times we share
paths crossed at first unknown
this soul which is part my own
a claim upon which I hold true
to know that love causes pain
and still smile at your embrace
miles melt away in this world
this space we share and breathe
Here because we each freely came
and each also free to some day part
for now I let a small smile free
the one you know you love to see
you are well alive within my heart
a string to each in silence used
one day I will walk away on my own
yet this love of mine will never leave
so for now together we enjoy the ride
and learn where this road might lead

Your poem that begins 'moonlight bliss drenches the shadow' is easily my favourite of the more recent ones. I can't comment on ALL of them, but the imagery in this is significantly more effective than 'unblind eyes now used to see
directions shift so lifted breeze'. One thing i've noticed is that sometimes your poems don't have a tangible message. I'm not suggesting you write narrative poems, just that sometimes they seem a little obscure and inaccessible because of the evidently very personal nature of them.

Thanks for pointing that out, vonstalhein - half the time they make no sense to me either, or seem to have no point other than words that just pop out of my head. This could be in part because writing is how I document my journey... and it is common for things not to be tangible.

Maybe something I need to do is focus on clarity in thought ... and see what comes out on paper.

Your voice will fade from my ears
The pressure of your arms around me
Your touch melted away from my skin

this one's a little special... although quite a bit of work

Poisoned tips leave trails of innocent blood
Shards broken lend a blind sudden stumble
Merciless trample in the rise to recover
A past that carries scars of buried thorns
Serenity left to hide these mending hearts

Melancholy tears fall on fertile ground
Weeping of sadness engulfed in warmth
Wetness trickling as slow buds bloom
unfurling as caressed one by one
To all left still with ears to hear
Soothing softly with intoxicating peace
Sweet radiance calls out its siren's song

Painful embrace by this new breath of life
Neither timebound or diminished in space
Edges traced melt away blurring as shadows
while diluted in hanging mists of quiet unknown
hidden dreams whisper to take firm hold

old man sitting on the corner
a worn cap in his fragile hands
sure this was the place she said
that bench at half past two
clock to chime the hours passed
and still he sat to wait
she'd have a flower in her hair
if she remembered again today
at dusk he finally went inside
stopped a nurse down the hall
"have you seen my wife" he said

Just another few pages today
promised to help stuff get done
600 pages ago it was dishes
the enemy had just been revealed
200 pages later trash by my feet
imminent disaster proclaimed
still 300 pages left to discover
the book got plucked from my hand

some say raindrops falling are tears
slipping through fingers of angels
do they fall on the world below
to give hope through sweet renewal
or show sad despair for what we are

trapped in a web of our own making
refusal to shake the foundations free
minds lost within this corrupted maze
follow blindly with hands along the wall
no thought to reach for light within

does heaven up there really exist
the final thought on the mind
as our eyes close one last time
the answer lies among those gone
all will know the answer some day
for now I make my heaven on earth

Sally stepped off the treadmill delicately, hanging onto the handlebar for support. She winced as she put first one foot, then the other back on the ground. Two steps, and she could sit down to survey the damage. Biting her lip in pain, she hobbled over in her 3" heels and sat down in relief. She grabbed the heel and slowly slid the shoe off her foot. Beautiful!

Three delicious blisters had formed on her left foot. Starting with her heel, she traced the raised puffy skin, chuckling gleefully while pressing somewhat firmly to watch the fluid in the blister move. She measured the blister and wrote it down in her journal - It'd grown 2mm today!

Moving her hands over the swollen red feet, she said to herself "I have the prettiest feet of anyone!" Her glance at the calendar told her it was Tuesday, which meant it was time to pop the blister on her big toe. Grabbing the needle she'd laid by the chair, she brought her foot near, breathing in the pungent aroma of sweaty feet and sighing in pleasure. Slowly she brought the needle closer, watching in anticipation of the Pop! that was soon to come. When the needle was just touching, she jabbed once quickly and shook her foot as the fluid began to drain. The liquid ran over her hand, and she waited for it to dry before setting her foot down.

Soon the other shoe was off, and as she ran her hands over the cracked, callous skin, the hanging edges of skin sent sensual shivers up her spine as her fingers passed over. If 20 minutes on the treadmill for four days could give her these kinds of results, tomorrow she was going to stay on for 30 minutes - Her pinkie blister was starting to reach record size, and she couldn't wait to see it as big as her thumb.
----------------------------------------

Hannah was glad the week was over - while performing was always enjoyable once she was on stage, the recovery time afterwards seemed more draining as the months passed. The house had been only half full last night, and she remembered the way her voice had echoed softly against the polished wood, surrounding the audience in music. At least some people still knew how to appreciate the simple, etheric melodies a voice and a piano could create.

With limited time before her flight left, she had bypassed changing after the concert, instead going directly to the airport.

An uneventful flight as always, she became slightly impatient as the carousel began to disperse the baggage off the plane, and there was still no sign of her box. Joey traveled with her everywhere, ever since his own musical career had been cut short by a freak accident. When she sang at Carnegie, the vase on the piano had held his ashes, and the she remembered the way she could have sworn that he was adding his own touches to the piano accompaniment, even then. He was never one to let an artistic muse go unteased.

Taking a sigh of relief, she finally saw the package approach, simple brown paper giving no clue to the contents inside. Hugging the box tightly, she smoothed the evening gown she still wore and stepped outside to flag a taxi.

Dedicated to a special teacher of mine

Just as if it were yesterday
This clear memory often replays
You sat backwards in the chair
Letters on the paper in your hand

It was a little scary at first
Learning to read between the lines
The world lost its black and white
Exploring now depths within grey

Amazed at how the words came alive
A thousand hidden treasures found
Even more discoveries lay in store
As I started writing worlds of my own

Sharing the answers not found in books
Some mysteries still remain unsolved
Do not be deceived by a destination
The key lies in the journey itself

You gave me courage to find a dream
Nurtured as wings grew to set it free
Flying now amidst the clouds I hope
Someday I'll live up to what you see in me

Beautiful, simply beautiful. I particularly love your first one Sweet Dreams. My father used to say that to me, he passed a year back now. That helped bring back some forgotten memories of those times he said it to me while tucking me in. Thank you.

I also love the poems you have about military personnel. They bring back memories of passed deployments, and late night I had. Yours is a beautiful mind. Again, I thank you for opening up my mind with your words.

hard to say when they began
maybe these words of praise
hold some notes of truth
here my mind is free

Trials never cease their pain
so as thus always a work incomplete
learn to see the growing beauty
within the strokes undefined

harshest critic always holds the brush
release control to the heart behind
for where the passion leads
there your beauty blooms
