With a little boy’s help
 

I wrote this the Christmas my son was born.

It was Christmastime again…
What did that mean exactly?
Crowds, Traffic, rushed people, commercialism, “ I want this…I want that!”,
30% off regular price, Santa’s visits to the Mall in early November?
Standing in line for two hours for a chance to sit on Santa’s lap,
“Grandma got run over by a reindeer”,
Toy fights, obnoxious people, the long lines at the cash register, buying presents via Discover or VISA, Artificial trees, silver and gold, purchasing Christmas lights to do the house. Who do I buy for and who do I skip this year? It comes down to money…doesn’t it? I used to think so. This year was different..
With a little boy’s help,
my Christmas has meaning.
With a little boy’s help,
I have a reason to breathe, to eat,
to work, to exist.
With a little boy’s help,
I came to know God.
With a little boy’s help,
Kristen and I have united.
With a little boy’s help,
my days are much brighter
even on the cloudy days.
With a little boy’s help,
my appreciation of my parents has deepened.
With a little boy’s help,
there is laughter, hope, excitement, adventure, surprise, uncertainty, pride, beauty, and love in an otherwise dead household.
With a little boy’s help,
the artificialness of Christmas has disappeared.
With a little boy’s help,
love has become bigger than life and has transcended all time.
For this little boy is my newborn son, Daniel.
I love you, my dearest son
And I thank you for giving me the best of Christmas gifts
Your love.
