Well, it may not be the card, so much as the application process, but they suck donkey balls. After 2 months of talking to people on the phone, I realize that I would never want to do business with such a mismanaged company, and neither should you.

Application Process - Started around the middle of October.

I put in a "pre-approved" application (no interest until Dec 2007), after receiving their letter. Filed it online.

They called me once to verify my employment.

After weeks of not hearing anything, I called them. They told me my application was denied. This came as a shock to me, I have spotless credit and have never been denied for anything. They informed me that it was because they couldn't verify my home address since I didn't have a home phone number. They told me I could fax them a utility bill or bank statement with my address on it and they would fix it and get me a card as soon as possible.

I faxed them a Bank Statement, (I'm into November by now). After not hearing anything for a couple more weeks, I called them back. I was told my app. was denied. For the same reason. I told them about the fax and after putting me on hold for several minutes, she came back and told me that the fax had been given to the wrong person and that they would correct it and I should be approved and receive a card in 7-10 business days.

After another couple weeks of not hearing anything I called them yet again. Went through pretty much the same process as before, wrong person had the bank statement, blah blah. Then she told me I was now APPROVED for a Platinum card and WOULD receive it in 7-10 business days.

Another couple of weeks, and now it's today. I called because I was concerned that I hadn't received my card yet. I was informed I was denied. She couldn't pull up the details of my application because it had been too long since I first filed it. I am LIVID. Fuck Discover Card.

Brief synopsis of my reasons for NOT wanting to do business with Discover:

1. Application process is ridiculous, Amex, Visa, MasterCard have always given me a response in minutes, not MONTHS.

2. They can't keep track of SENSITIVE financial information sent to them.

3. No one knows whats going on around there.

4. They will flat-out LIE to appease an angry customer.

So, in short, save yourself the hassle of dealing with these morons and just get a Visa or MasterCard like everyone else. You'll be glad you did.

why were you that desperate to go with discover? credit companies should be knocking at *your* door, not the other way around ;-)
