New Wrokout Stuff I Just Read
Here are a few things I recently read. Thought some might find them interesting...
1. It's better to work out six time for 30 minutes in a week rather than three times for 60 minutes. Something to with do boosting metabolism more often, being able to perform without burning out and excercise is a natural appetite suppressant. 2. Make your own gel ice pack by mixing 1 1/2 cups water, 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol, seal in a plastic bag and freeze for a few hours. It makes a slush that will stay cold for at least 60 minutes and comform to your body. I tried it and it works great! 3. The Journal of Nutrition had an article about CLA. Seems it works pretty well as long as you work out. There was a test where mice were fed a high-fat diet and CLA and excercised 5 times/week. Their body fat decreased by 4% and they gained lean muscle mass. Excercise or CLA alone produced these same results. http://www.nutrition.org/cgi/content...code=nutrition Anyway, here are three interesting topics (at least to me). thoughts - comments? I'm also interested in CLA experiences you may have.

2) You're going to need quite the seal on that plastic bag. I would hate for it to open and empty the contents. Since I have no sealing machine, I won't be able to give it a try
3) Where can I actually get CLA into my diet? The only source mentioned in that link was safflower oil. What in the world is safflower oil?

I tried the ice bag thing using a double zip lock bag just as a back up.
Safflower oil is just another of the good oils (also a natural antihistamine used for dogs, if you can believe it), like canola, walnut and rice bran. All are good for different things like different cooking temps or for salad dressing. You can get the CLA fuel, manufactured by Twinlab, from: http://www.vitacost.com/Store/Produc...r=027434014182 "TWINLAB CLA FUEL is an all natural dietary supplement, providing between 77%-87% Conjugated Linoleic Acid. This is an essential fatty acid that is found in a variety of foods, such as beef and dairy products." I don't think you'll get the same benefits from olive oil or fish oil since CLA is usually derived from beef and dairy. But both are important. I use olive oil almost exclusively and use a lot of flax meal (for omega-3) in cooking things like bread, cookies and oatmeal. I try to get as much as possible naturally through diet and supplement where needed. The only other things I take is Glucosamine for joint health and Twinlab's Dual Tabs vitamins. I've also added Glutamine.
