Where/How did you meet your significant other?
The opportunity to meet someone that ends up being more than "just someone" is very special, and I assume in many cases the initial meeting is very memorable.
That being said, where and how did you meet your significant other? |
In my cousin's apartment building in Ottawa, Ontario. My cousin was having a get together. She was there, and I knew she was going to be there. I introduced myself, asked some general questions about where she was from, thought she was cute... We hooked up for a date at Timmy Ho's a day later... and the rest was history...

My first contact with my wife was online chatting. She was looking through AOL profiles, and thought I sounded "nice". That makes me think, what if my profile was done differently? Who would I be with if anyone?
Anyway, we chatted for awhile, then fell out of touch for a few months. Out of the blue we started talking again. We finally met eachother in the fall around Thanksgiving. My parents were out of town, and she lived about 2 hours away. (I lived in West Bend, WI, and she resided in Green Bay, WI) Her parents were away as well, so I drove to see her, the longest and farthest I had ever been from home on my own at the time, and met her at her house. I stayed the night, (nothing more than some good fooling around going on there) and we have been together ever since. For a year we would drive to see eachother alternating who came to visit who, and we never missed a weekend together. We were engaged a year after that. |
In all honesty?
On BMEzine.com. We were "introduced" by a mutual friend who thought we'd get along, and we were acquaintances and talked once in a while for about 7 months. After a death in my life, we got closer, and met up in December. The sparks were flying everywhere, and we were official as of January 2nd. On February 19th he proposed, and the rest as they say is history. In the last 13 months, the longest we've gone without talking is 3 days. |
My husband and I met at a bar. It was 10 days after I got out of a bad, serious 2 year relationship. I was only looking to have a good time. That night we stayed out real late, closed the bar in fact. Fooled around alot. Never expected to hear from him. I would not even give him my number. His friend exchanged his/mine phone # with my friend. He called me 2 days later. We would talk for hours and hours. Did not have an official first date for about a month, but we kept meeting up at the same bar. A little over a year later, we were engaged. We have now been together for 14 years, married for 11 1/2.
|
My sisters best friends, roomate. I drove them to the airport a few times... then finally my sister played matchmaker. And now we have been happily married for 20 months.
|
My wife and I used to beat the crap out of each other in a Judo class. Lost touch with her for a few years and ran into each other at a wedding. We went home together and have been together ever since.
|
Met at a frat after party. However didn't know anything about her until her friend helped us unite and now we are moved in together.

Weird, I was recently considering starting this exact thread.
I met my girl in a jacuzzi. :D |

The God's honest truth? Catholicsingles.com, but we usually just tell people we met at church.
And, in fact, we're getting hitched legal and all at the end of October. |
Well...
My SO and I had a couple mutual friends, and both lived in the dorms at our school, so I knew who he was, and he knew who I was for a whole semester, AND We saw one another at small parties in the dorms... buuuut nothing happend for a whole semester. I was with someone else.. going through breaks and break ups, and near the very end of my relationship with my ex... My SO and I stumbled upon a night of staying in our mutual friends' dorm, staying up playing game boy until 5:00 in the morning, exchanging screen names (I just realized how geeky and cool that is :) ), and THEN continuing to talk that morning for another hour online. We had about three weeks of not knowing where our relationship stood... until I finally gave in to the "commitment." :D 7 months later.. JinnKai and I are still going strong. He's absolutely fabulous. :icare:  |
At work. Well, I was working; he worked for the same company and transferred about a month later. Ironically, his best friend asked me out first, and I said yes, but the date never happened. Had it, I doubt my hubby would have gone out with me, him being loyal to this friends and all. Thinking back, I wonder if there was any bad feelings about it, I really don't think so, but I've never thought about it before......

I met my girl in high school in my OAC year. She was a friend of a friend and I wasn't interested in her at first. After things didn't work out with someone else (she wasn't interested in me), I heard that my future wife was interested me, after thinking about it for a while I decided to ask her out on a walk in the park. Best choice I ever made. |
Shani, you make me feel better about my recent speed dating...
I met my boyfriend in a bar--I went to see a show, ran into an old friend who introduced me to his girlfriend, and his girlfriend in turn introduced me to all of her friends, which included E. We didn't hit it off until another guy got up to get me a drink and I decided to talk to him instead (I knew the other guy from a class). From there we hit it off, and once the second band started we decided to leave (they were way too loud to talk over). So we went to another bar for an hour or so, chatted, and then walked home together (we live on the same street). Went out on our first official date two nights later and I went home with him :D He's had a hard time kicking me out of his bed since. Now, two and a half weeks later, I'm packing up my things and moving into his apartment. Kinda scary, but at the same time really exciting, and surprisingly comfortable and okay :) Wish us luck. |

By the by, our first date was 6/26/04, I proposed 10/03/04. Our first date started at 7pm on 6/26/04. It hasn't ended yet.... |
I'm amazed at the fact that several people had a shorter courtship (tee hee, I am all old fashionerd, or just a nerd) than us. We met, officially, on March 31, 2000. I had just moved back to this wonderland after 6 years in the hell that is Kansas.
We saw each other across a parking lot, and we both kind of stumbled, gaped, and meandered. She took the first step, thank God, because I am a collecting data kind of guy and would not ask a girl out until I had several factors in my favor. Yeah, my previous relationship sucked doggy. I don't know what it was, the traffic lights favored me, the grocery store seemed to cater to me, the library didn't fine me for overdue books. Everything in my life went right after meeting her. We were born four hours apart, we had an entire life in common, but never met. This, after all the other crapola, this has been the love of my life, and I wouldn't give it up for anything. We married four years ago today, and it's been an adjustment for sure. I had always been a single, couple hating, holiday despising crank. I have always also been somebody who looks for any way possible to celebrate those things that couples celebrate because I know that all the past hate has been a lie. She's on her way home now. I am happy. It's been an adjustment. |

It's okay, I met my first and current girlfriend on otakubooty.com which is like a myspace for extreme anime nerds ;) . I'm not as big of an anime nerd as most people on that site, but I found her profile and saw we liked the same anime that had to do with cars. We chatted a bit and she invited me to play the arcade game with her friends. First day we met, we hit it off immediately. We ended up making out all night in her living room and the rest is history :D oh yeah, this was not even 2 weeks ago  We're completely all over each other, we've been going out basically every other day since then :icare: -1337haxor |

We met in a bowling league, and we haven't bowled once since we got married 15 years ago... She hated bowling (and still does), and was only there cause her friends 'made' her.

We were in college in Buffalo (my freshman yr, his sophmore yr) and we were both watching my boyfriend's final acting class presentation (fall semester). Quadro started chatting me up and made me laugh a lot. That boyfriend graduated and went back to Queens... and when the spring semester started, I went on a double date with Q, his best friend, and my roommate. They did not have NEARLY the evening that we did. I fell asleep drunk in his arms... and have been doing so ever since. October 30, we'll have been married 1 year, and January will be 9 years together in total.
I love that guy. :D |
hey our anniversaries are only going to be a day apart....
Im concerned about one thing though... Quote:

I don't know, how does that read??
'Cause I mean that I have been getting drunk and passing out in his arms for almost 9 years!!! |
Hrm......
Martel and I met somewhere along the way our Junior year of high school. We went to a boarding school, and it was our first year, and my hall was the sister hall of his hall. He was friends with some of the people I was friends with, and so we'd just end up in the big group haning out together. I didn't know him *that* well, really- just hung out in his room with our friends on the weekends, played BS for long and loud hours during the afternoons.. that kind of thing. Honestly, I thought he was a little bit of an ass- conserative and opnionated! BUT I'd always had a HUGE crush on him too.. he was always hot and his arrogance was sexy to me in a way. Flash forward to my Junior year of college- Martel and I had talked up a storm on AIM since my freshman year, I was eight months out of a really really horrid relationship and living on my own. I went to visit my grandmother who was the next town over from where he was going to college, and I said I'd like to see him. I ended up staying at his dorm room (this was the day before his fall break started, mind you) for like, 7 hours longer than I originally intended! I invited him to see me in Asheville the next weekend, which he did.... Needless to say that saturday night I ened up ripping his clothes off sometime around 3am... and have been doing so ever since :) this was November 8, 2003- we were legally married Jan 6 2005 :) |
The love of my life and I have known each other since kindergarten. We were never freinds until our Senior year of high school. We walked together at graduation ('98). Then off to seperate colleges where we continued to talk off and on and hang out together on breaks. We both moved back with our parents after college and continued to see more of each other. Then one day out of the blue she takes my hand and gives me a kiss and we have been this way since. We consider our first official date 7/26/04, we got engaged on my birthday 2/19/05, and we are getting married 2/11/06 10:50am. Everyone claims they saw it for years, but we each needed time to get our dumb shit out of the way in college. Damn I love that woman.
Kinda surprised there aren't more people that met in high school. Seems to be the thing around where we live. |
mandy and I met outside a club. She asked me for a light (without saying please, I might add). She looked, well, intimidating. Big puffy yellow jacket, black jeans and big i'll-kick-yer-ass boots. We didn't talk much that night coz she had just had an argument with a friend of mine. Of course I didnt know that, adding to the "bad girl" thing she had going on.
Some time later I found out we had a few mutual friends and we were at the same Technikon. Went for coffee at her place with said mutual friends one afternoon. I was slow on the uptake (typical guy), oblivious to the possibility that she might even like me. There were a few more incidents along the way worth mentioning i.e. one day mustering up the courage to go sit at a table in the cafeteria with her and strike up a convo, her wearing CK Crave just so I'd smell her neck (devil woman) and me playing with her hair. The day I finally thought I had a chance was when we went to the Varsity next to our campus and spent the afternoon drinking beer and talking shit in their cafeteria with two of our best friends. I got the obligatory hint-hint, nudge-nudge from my buddy Zander. Again we parted with no action *slaps forehead* Fast forward to a week before my 21st birthday. She and two of her girlfriends were drinking vodka at her friend's place. I made an appearance, finding them in their pajamas. We talked for a good long time without doing anything - more out of fear than anything else - until the words "would you two just do it already?" rang out from the next room. What came next was the best kiss I'd ever EVER experienced in my life. I left there with such a moerse* smile on my face :) We been together ever since. *moerse: Afrikaans for fucking huge. |
and the rest as they say is history.
and will be together for a long time to come. another point worth mentioning... as he was walking out the door, he turned back for one last kiss... needless to say i was over the moon, big eyes, pumping heart, he really scored big on that one... ofcourse, i didnt let him see that:-) |
At a friends house after being at the pub all night. Kept in touch as friends for a coulple of years then things moved very fast indeed.

I wa in the Navy and we were on a 6 month cruise to the middle east. Turns out that this was just filled with long nights curled up with books, and longer days doing that navy thing...
The day we pull back into Bremerton (Seattle area) A Friend of mine says "Hey, I have this pen pal that lived an hour down south. I am going to meet her, wanna come?" It turns out that this pen pal also had a friend that she invited along. So, by a chance blind date we met. It took 6 to 7 more trips down to see them before we really got interested in each other. In fact my friend was more intested in the pan pal's friend that he was the actual pen pal. I do have to admit that out of the two I like the Friend better as well. After a few dates I told him I was interested in dating the "Friend" and he said "yeah .. that's cool I have this girl up north im courting" . well.. 4 months after meeting, The "Friend" and I were married. Needless to say , it has been 12 wonderful years, over 20 jobs, 4 kids, 3 dogs, 7 cats, 3 fish, 2 birds, 1 rabbit and 1 sugar-glider later .. we're still deeply in love. hope this gives inspiration to all those "love at firt sight doesnt exist" folks.. because I never considered marriage till I met The misses. She was married to a co-worker, and he decided it would be a good Idea to introduce us to each other. When our eyes met ....Holy Fucking Shit, I cannot explain the experience but we both felt the same thing. We fought the inevitable for a few months but, there was no denying what was there. Within a Year we were both divorced and remarried...to each other.
