My Tabloid Obsession
Where do I start.......?
Ok, I have a obsession with tabloid magazines. I buy at least 3 to 4 every week when I go grocery shopping. For some reason I am very interested in celebrities, even the ones I can't stand. I love seeing them in real life situations and hearing gossip about them. I also buy Guitar magazine, Maxium, Stuff, FHM, High Times, etc., so I'm not totally lame, but the majority is tabloid. I really enjoy reading them! Ok, thats out of the way, here it is. I'm 6'4'' 200-210lbs, dirty, hairy, tatooed, devilishly handsome, man's man. I have an image to keep up with! So if you think I'm metro you'd be dead wrong. I'm not saying that reading tabloids makes you gay, but kinda feminine. I guess. I don't know thats how I feel. Like its......I don't know. I'm just rambling now! I'm embarrassed by this. I'm not gonna stop reading them, hell no, but I always hide them when someone comes over. I don't know what they would think of me. Now my question(s) 1.- Do you think its weird for a straight guy to read every goddamn tabloid magazine?! 2.- What do women think of it? 3.- Any guys out there buy tabloid magazines? Cause I don't know any! The problem is not reading them, but being all self-concious about it. The great thing about TFP that I value the most is, I can always be myself and no one will ever judge me. This doesn't bother me like I lose sleep over it, it's actually very funny, I was just wondering.................what do you think?

I can't stand tabloids or such gossip. Get yourself a nice girlfriend, real people you can meet should fill your life not rubbish about unimportant people you don't know.

Being interested in the life of others is usually considered a female trait, yes, but men gossip too. I get the best gossip from male friends. And look in the manly manly sportpages, they're full of gossip. OMG Fredrik Ljungberg shaves his armpits!!!1!
I work in a grocery store that sells all sorts of tabloids, and maybe 15% are bought by guys. I don't think all of them are picking it up for a girlfriend, since I see a lot of them leafing through them looking very interested. My widowed grandfather still buys the same gossipy magazines my late grandmother read, even thogh she's been gone for over a decade and he's a manly man who's been working in the sawmill and hunting all his life. So: 1. Not weirder than a woman doing the same thing. 2. Whatever. 3. Yes there are. Last edited by Pip; 09-10-2005 at 06:26 AM.. Reason: Grammar |

Well I read 'em too. Not very often, but I do read them when I am watching my folk's house when they're out of town, or occasionally I find one in our breakroom at work. For me, it's pretty funny to see what all that makes it to print in those tabloids. I won't waste my money one any of them, but if I run across one and I have a few minutes I'll read through it for the heck of it.
1) A little 2) n/a 3) No BTW I also read Maxxim and FHM pretty regularly

Ok, I see. I'm still gonna keep it on the down low from anyone who comes over my place. It is trash, I agree, but it just interesting and funny to me. Maybe I'll grow out of it.

By tabloids I think he is talking about National Inquirer and the like.... and that's who I was referring to when I mentioned tabloids as well.

Well -- as long as you take whatever you read with a grain of salt, and don't actually believe that angelina jolie is from mars, i don't see the harm... Just be very careful about saying, I read in the weekly world news last week that....

Heh. I talk a big talk about how trite they are and how they are a complete exploitation and yada yada yada, but do I look at them in line at the grocery store? *nods*
You're not alone out there. However, I tend to stick to People and US Weekly unless National Enquirer has a cover photo of famous people without their makeup on.

Part of being a Manly Man is realizing you can do whatever the hell you want and just lay the smack down on anyone who gives you grief about it.
I don't read tabloids, but I say go for it. Don't advertise it but I don't reckon you need to actively hide it either.
