Don't Use Orbitz
Maddox's webpage explains why hurting even "just" one customer (and, from the reader responses, dozens) is bad practice. Read it and form your own judgments, but I'm not risking my travel plans with Orbitz.

I have found that it is actually cheaper by a few bucks to book online directly through your airline of preference. All those so-called discount travel sites are rip-offs. I use them strictly as a price and schedule guideline.
|
ngdawg is absolutely right. These so-called "discount" sites always tack on some sort of "service fee" that's in addition to the cost of the ticket, car rental, whatever you're purchasing. You're much better off going through the airline's web site directly.

Before I discovered the wonder of popup blocking software and anti-spyware software I used to get more popups and popunders from Orbitz than from everyone else combined. I don't travel ever, and I drive on the rare occasions I do go someplace, but the memories of all those popups alone will keep me from ever using Orbitz.

hmm, i havent ever had problem with orbitz. so far, we have saved ATLEAST $4000 if not more because of them. honeymoon to cancun, saved 2500. springbreak to south padre island, saved 1500. trip to san antonio, saved money on the hotel also. i've never had a problem with them.
|
i've used studentuniverse.com (one of their affiliates, i believe) many times for booking international flights. always received prompt service and good documentation.
using those online booking sites can be helpful if you're going to have and hotel stay and/or rent a car at your destination. they often have bundled deals that surpass what you are able to get piecemeal from the individual hotel/airline/rental agency. |
I agree with Phant84 on this one. I've never had a problem with Orbitz before, and I've travelled all over the country with them. *shrug* One persons experience can't speak for everyones.
|
I've used several over the last several months, and cheaptickets.com gave me the best price for a multi-city trip to Canada/Alaska. All the sites fares/rules change on a routine basis...keep checking.
|
I used Orbitz to book my trip to New Zealand. I ended up with a connection in New Zealand that simply wasn't possible due to clearing customs. Quantas was very easy to deal with in rescheduling. I'd blame myself, rather than Orbitz for underestimating the time required to clear customs.

Skogafoss uses ALL of the sites. She pays for whatever has the cheapest and least pain in the ass ways to get from point A to point B.
No different than picking any other vendor. |
