Well see that the thing. I didn't make her stay home. I told her she can do what ever she wants. I know I can get her friend to be a witness to that. Because I know she was living with us when I told her if she quit her job that's fine. She didn't have to do anything in the house either. I was not making her quit her job so she can become a house wife and support me. I just thought we don't need the extra income for us to live the life we have.
If she was supporting me at home like a "house wife", there would have been warm food on the table when I got home, laundry done every day, house/apartment clean everyday, etc etc. And what is really going to suck if I can't use the tape is that she flat out said "I said I was looking for a job, but I never even looked in the paper or the internet!!!" I why should I look for a job when I had control of the finances and I could do what ever I wanted?" It was Indiana before but we moved from one apartment to another. I thought in Indiana it had to be a certian number of years in the same location to be considered common law. Well she knows if she spends the money that we have now, it's less money that we are going to split in the end. Oh and what about this. She has a college degree. I on the other hand worked right out of high school, and pretty much got the jobs that I have worked through work of mouth. Everything I know about IT is on the job training. That is why I have been with my current company for 10 years. I don't have a degree. Who would hire me. She on the other hand has the degree so she could get a job much easier. Maybe if she got a job I will try to get fired and try to get some money from her. Just kidding. |

just an FYI:
there's many of us out there that are employed with NO COLLEGE DEGREE and only on the job training or even just on own training. You've been with a company for longer than 1 year, almost 10 is nice to see also. give it a shot if you are tempted to look elsewhere for employment.

Just checked this thread out so I'm a little behind, however, I can share with you how I would deal with your unfortunate and unbelievably disloyal situation. In one of your previous posts you indicated that you earn a substantial sum of money. That's good.
Have your attorney *BURY* her attorney in paperwork. This little "game" can take a very long time and substantial sums of money to play. She obviously does not have the money to fight this strategy. He who has the most money, WINS, assuming of course that you really don't want her to get much of anything. The flip side is, that if you just want to stop the bleeding (sorry for the metaphors), just buy her out and be done with it. I wish I had better advice to share with you. It really is quite a blow to discover that the one you love is lost. Be strong and good luck!

My dad and my mom had the same problem. Both were attorneys, but my dad was the wage earner, and my mom attempted to run her own firm and failed miserably. Even when she made money, it was only for her to put back into her business, and it was my father's job to pay the bills and take care of everyone.
That view still bothers me. |
