Thinking about a second job...
Hey all, as the summer comes up, I've come to realize that I'm going to have a lot of free time without school and all. I have an arrangement with my boss to work around 30-35 hours a week through the summer, though I'm considering getting some kind of second part-time job. I have rent payments all through the summer on my new apartment, and I really would like to be able to start paying back the $1300 I owe my parents (accumulated unforseen expenses throughout the year). To be honest, the tech-support job is my first real job (My 'unreal' work experience is all in my career area, which is film lighting and cinematography, and though it is good for my career, the experience doesnt help pay the bills while I'm still in college). Just wondering what you would recommend as a relatively low-stress second job that I could use as a small suplimental income (a good friend of mine works at a local coffee house a few afternoons a week just so she gets the employee discount and it provides a few extra dollars for spending money-- this is the type of thing I would be looking for). I'm not really looking for specific stores or anything, just what type of job would be what I am looking for (remember little experience, so I dont honestly know how hard it is to work at blockbuster or flip burgers)...

There are alot of partime jobs, some you have to work hard but make more and some are kinda fuckitthisisfun jobs. If you can go part time at a place you know alot of people go to, like a popular coffee house, and get some night shifts you can pull in some biiiiiiig bucks from tips. Trust me. Used to do it, and wouldn't be suprised if i got over $120 bucks in tips that night, plus hourly wage alone. Was kinda nice when I needed that extra cash. BUt this was constant work during those hours, whereas some other part time jobs are sit around do nothin" but dont get paid as much. Up to you.

Get a job that brings in tips such as a server or delivering pizza. Although I don't know what you make an hour, most tipped employees make on average 2-3 times more per hour than most part-time jobs pay.
I never saw myself as being married to a housewife but my wife wants to keep our baby out of daycare. As a result, I had to get a second job. I chose to go back to delivering pizza, a job I did throughout college. I never make less than $10/hr and regularly make more than $20/hr. It's also the easiest job you could imagine. |

I would consider finding out, good paying job. How long did you spend looking for work? How commited were you to finding a good job? Why not invest alot of time into finding and getting a decent job, you will be earning for hundreds of hours at any job and shouldn't make choices lightly. I have been working a full time job and part time job for the past two weeks and it's not worth it. I make far more at my new, full time job so I am simply going to stick it out with this new company. I have an excellent work ethic and six days a week, twelve hours a day is too much.
