Walt Disney World Internships

There was a few forums I figured this could go in, but I'll give this one a try and hope for the best

Basically, I was looking into internships at WDW, however I noticed on thier website that they require all students to attend a presentation before they can be elligible for an interview. The problem is, due to classes, work, driving distance, and just plain inconvienence I am not going to be able to make either of the whole two they are holding in my state.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience working with WDW and knows how strict this really is.

Thanks

I don't know personally about WDW, but I do know a former cast member from Disneyland/DCA.

Bottom line, without getting to intense, is he hated it. Cast were treated like shit, yet "forced" to maintain the "Happiest Place On Earth" appearance at all times, sometimes suffering disiplanary action if they wern't smiling (I'm not kidding)

Tons of internal politics, a union whoring itself out to Disney, et all, made for a very uncomfortable employment for this friend.

Personally, I'd (obviously) recommend against it, but the one positive is Disney looks great on a resume. Assuming of course you are not "Dishonorably Discharged"

One has to keep that in mind that they would have to be ON all the time when they were at work. The place is in the business of making pleasant happy memories, not ones with apathetic people serving them. There's a marked difference between going to a Disney Park versus a Six Flags park.

Disney as a company is a brand name. It's something to consider. I worked for them in the late 80s. They work you hard and pay you not as much as somewhere else because See..Kay...Why.. Why? (sorry couldn't resist) because you get the ability to put Disney on your resume. (happens here at MTV too...)

I will tell you though if you are good at what you do there, and work your way up, they (like here) will pay you handsomely to keep your talented body as part of the Disney Workforce.

The internship program here is VERY STRICT. Why? Because there's so many people all wanting to be here that they can pick and choose. It's the intern givers market in places like Disney, Viacom, Time Warner...

Thanks for the replies.

Im not really asking about how the working conditions are and such, it was more of a question about if the seminars are really required or can you just send in a Resume`.

(btw, I would be applying for a computer science position)

here they are. I would assume that they are there as well.

after reading the text carefully, how else would you be able to get an appointment for an interview?

My good friend is a campus rep for Disney. From what I understand, the internship program for the college program is highly competitive, and you better your chances by doing the regular college program beforehand. At any rate, that doesn't answer your question: as far as I know, the seminars are required. I'll double-check to be sure.
