Sweet!
For the past few days everything I've had to eat or drink tastes like it's full of sugar. The pasta I'll eat and the bitter beer I'll have during dinner all taste like they've got a cup of sugar. Even the water I drink, the bread and the salad all taste really sweet. It's the same stuff I've always eaten, and the same brand of beer, but everything tastes really sweet and it's making me feel real sick. I normally hate sweet food so this is a hundred times worse.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Has it got something to do with my diet, making me think that everything is sweet? I don't think I'll get many replies but I thought I'd try anyway since I'm having trouble eating all this sugary food. |
Hmmm....doesn't ring any bells with me. I hope you figure out what is causing it though!

When things start tasting different, it is worth investigating. I had 2 weeks when everything tasted like metal, woke upi one morning and couldn't move half of my face. Went to the Doc and she said it was Bell's Palsy (viral infection that brings on temporary paralysis). So please look up your symptoms or see a doc.

It was sudden, no changes in diet (maybe you stopped eating sugar?) that precipitated it?
I can't think of a way this could happen, short of something going wrong with your nervious system. Personally, I don't like things going wrong with my nervious system. |
Thanks for the replies. A month ago I moved out of home and am now cooking for myself, I'm pretty sure I've got enough fruit/vegetables/meat/dairy/grains etc. I could do with more fruit actually, so I wonder if that might be a cause? I'll give it another week or so, since I don't feel ill at all, and see how it goes. SparklingDot's reply has got me wondering now...

I couldn't find much looking on the internet with the limited search terms I could think of, but it seems a sweet taste in the mouth may be a symptom of diabetes.

In Chinese medicine, the taste of sweet is related to the Spleen and Stomach (capitalized to differentiate the allopathic view of these organ systems). My thought is that there may be some digestive irregularities going on with you currently. Are you slow to wake up, are your muscles weak, heavy and tired? More fatigued than usual, shorter of breath, sweating easily, feeling heavier, bloated? Any changes in your bowels (looser?). Of course you don't need to answer these questions in an open forum...but consider if they have relevance. Feel free to PM me.

id get to a doctor, sooner rather than later. There could be something wrong with your nervous sytem. Its late and everything is leaving my head. but there could be something wrong with the innervation of your mouth.

you could just be fighting off a cold too...??? Some of these repsonses are quite the extreme of over-reacting IMO

Did you read the thread Forum Hotseat: Lasereth, where he discussed dysgeusia? His taste buds are permanently screwed up following an illness.
|
Thanks for the replies everyone, I've never heard of anything called dysgeusia but now it's got me researching. I'm going to look into a bit more - knowing that this might not be all in my mind is both relieving and even more worrying.
Thanks again. |
Hi,
Taste changes could be a lot of things. Are you taking any new medications, OTC, or supplements? Any dietary changes? Any other significant lifestyle changes? Regardless, I'd see a doc and get it checked out. |
