Good health insurance if you're unemployed or underemployed?

I seriously need a check up but I don't have health insurance. My parent's coverage ran out after I turned 21. I just graduated college and looking for a job. I just want cheap health insurance so I can get a check up and teeth cleaning once a year. Any suggestions?

I would have to say that the cost of insurance to do just those two things would be much higher than the cost of paying for those yearly visits out of pocket. The average checkup/doctor visit is around $65, and I'm not sure about the dental, but insurance rates these days are insane. If I were you, until you got a job with insurance, I would pay out of pocket. It will probably be cheaper.

I'm in a very similar situation. Paying out of pocket at first seems the way to go, but what if you get injured in a car accident or something unexpected. Those bills get quickly out of the range of your pocketbook.

I would suggest Blue Cross/ Blue Shields. They have a Blue Advantage plan (do a web search). Insurance is for serious accidents and not to cover checkups. Normally cheap health plans will cause you to pay for those anyway. Dental insurance is less of a concern for most people.

You NEED health insurance!!! If you get hurt, sick, have heart problems...you name it. I know a 24 year old with Cancer. Without health insurance he is bankrupt and so is his family.

Wow, you said it...there is something like 50 million Americans right now with zero health coverage. Truly a problem that needs immediate attention by our government. I havn't seen a doctor in over 8 years. But like SupahFreak sez....pay for a yearly visit.....at the very least. If you have health problems, you want to take care of them before they get out of control......holy crap, I should listen to myself sometimes!
