Places in Vegas
The plan was to go to Las Vegas for spring break March 12-15. We had a place to stay with a friend of a friend so that would have been free. That plan fell through the other night.
I've been searching all the online hotel finders and so far have not found anything cheap. By cheap, I mean anywhere from $36 to $55. So, does anyone here know of any cheap hotels that would not appear online? Or would it be better to just go down there and hope to find one somewhere along the interstate?

We are actually driving down so we will have a car. I checked Henderson and the hotels are all full. I called and one of the front desk clerks said there is a big convention going on that week. I have been searching on google for the last 2 days and nothing cheap has showed up. I think we'll end up staying at Primm Valley Resort about 40 miles from the strip, but its pretty cheap.

there is a fairly cheap hotel near the airport. it's a few blocks off the strip, between the MGM and Luxor.
http://www.lvtravelodge.com/ just checked their calendar, and they are sold out beginning the 12th...you guys must have picked a busy week. edit: the place you're staying shouldn't be too bad, provided you are traveling north to LV. but you should know that there is little else at that exit. Your problem is you picked a time to go when a major convention is coming to town (Conexpo). All the strip hotels are going to be expensive. Best place to look when there is a large convention are the downtown hotels. Other than that, look for areas away from the touristy spots.

I did a quick search on Mobissimo -
http://web1.mobissimo.com/travel/res...16ba7&seqNum=1 there's one at the 53.00 mark -- and a few at the 60+ price point - the rest are well over 100 dollars. (if those cheap rates are still available)

The site lied! I clicked on the $53.00 and that somehow turns into $148.00 on Super 8's webpage. Anyways, I found a hotel about 30 minutes outside of Vegas with everything I need to be happy (swimming pool) and only costing $35.95 a night. I can now relax. Thanks for everyone's help.

I've never managed to stay in Vegas cheaply, even though I constantly hear about how cheap it is (and this after hours of internet searching for hotels). I'm glad you found someplace affordable, and have a fun break!!!

Check out both the "Red Rock Canyon" and the "Valley of Fire" while you are there. They are well worth the small drive from the strip to enjoy such great natural beauty. You could even work in the Hoover Dam if you take in the Valley of Fire. Enjoy!!!

Also, if you're willing to make a 2 hour trip there, check out Death Valley. Very beautiful (surrounding mountains that is) and very spooky at the same time. If you go, let me know if the ducks are still there
