Oh boy...need some advice

It's Saturday night. Me and the friends are hanging out and have no idea what to do. Suddenly, someone suggests we "chalk" one of our friends(lets call him Billy) car for a joke. Basically, we go buy Glass Chalk and write messages on his windows.

So we run and get the chalk, and chalk his car while he is inside the comic shop playing games. Among the messages are

"please fuck me"
"I Love *insert ex-love here*
"Free lovin"
"learn to park"
a picture of superman (which I drew)
2 stick figures having anal sex

We even record it ona video camera, and then everyone bolts...except me. I decide I wanna play some games, so I walk into the comic shop and hop into the computer lab. Billy is there, playing starcraft, so I hop on and play some Counter Strike.

Billy leaves the room for a minute or two, and runs back, extremely pissed. Someone has written on his car. Suddenly, I have to decide wether to confess to who did it, or just not say anything. I decide to not say anything, but I help him clean up the car, for I learn he has put alot of work into this car and he will probably need a car wash for it.

Now here is my predicament...the friend that video taped the whole thing is gonna show Billy the tape as a joke. This is when it will reveal who did it. I feel really bad waiting for a few days till he see's the tape to tell him the truth. He is really pissed about this whole thing, and is threatening to call the cops or kick some ass.

It was all a joke, and I hope he would take it as one, but he's not. So, should I tell him the truth of how I was in chalking his car? I mean...I did help him clean it up. Or should I just wait till he watches the tape, and then just brace for impact?

I don't really care about the "kick some ass" part, because this guy is a joke when it comes to fighting (plus theres about 6 of us and 1 one of him), but I DO NOT like fighting. Getting the cops involved is ridiculous I feel.

I have learned a lesson from all this, that's for sure. Do yourself the decent thing and DON"T GET INVOLVED!

I think you should tell him, and say what you did here about having learned your lesson, etc. If you think he's going to get all inflammatory about it and not listen, perhaps you could try writing him a letter - I'd explain the reason though. Obviously he's taking this very seriously so if he sees you in the video he's going to feel betrayed if you don't tell him. The stuff about kicking some ass is probably just talk but obviously he's upset. Even if his friendship is not important to you it's the decent thing to do and you'll feel better about yourself for having done the right thing and coming clean.

Remember in the movie "Pulp Fiction" when Travolta is talking with his dealer buddy and he mentions that someone "keyed" his car and he wishes he would have just been there to see this asshole do it....remember?? If not, rent it again.

I don't think you should ever mess with anyone's car, especially not your friend's car. Not soap, shaving cream, toilet paper or this chalk stuff. I don't care if it's a 1985 Chevette....a car is like a guys castle...especially if he doesn't have a castle yet.

I would get him a gift certificate for a detailing shop so they can do a proper hand wash....and apologize...profusely. Just my 2 cents worth.

Ya dude you really need to tell him what happened. Apoligize to him and make sure he realizes that you did not intend for it to be malicous just a joke. Also i would definitely suggest trying to get your other friend not to play the tape otherwise the guy with the car is just going to get even more mad. A joke like that should be taken as a just that, a joke but still if the kid took it more seriously you should appease him as its not worth losing a friend over something like that.

I feel sorry for Billy. He goes in for a game of CS and his friends have dirtied up his car in public. I don't think you should ever do that, even if it is washable, but if you really wanted to do it, do it in his driveway or something, not in public.

If I were you guys I'd destroy the video tape, all of you admit your guilt and buy him a six pack and let him do his thing. While he's doing that all of you get the bucket and hose out and wash his car, inside and out, tyres and all, vacuum, glass cleaner, the whole deal. A gift certificate for someone else to clean it is too easy. Apologize again and hopefully he'll forgive you for it.

Dude, you could chalk the fuck out of my car for all I care, so long as I can still drive. Frankly my car is a functional tool, not an extension of my masculine pride.

More disturbingly, what kind of nerd plays Starcraft, in a comic shop, AND is a car nut?

Some new hybrid breed, or something worse....

Edit: If you messed with my DVD's however, I would fucking KILL YOU.

Do you guys not like this guy or something? Were you drunk? You must have already felt guilty to hang around. And which idiot decided to tape your devastation?

I think the real lesson here is never to record something that you might not want somebody to see at some point in time. Creating evidence of your misdeeds is just fucking stupid.

He's going to see the tape anyway so better to fess up beforehand than wait for him to be shocked and dissapointed to see you on video tagging his car. It sounds like you've learned a valuable lesson (that its not funny to mess with someone's car in any sense, just spiteful and stupid) and are truly remorseful. If you explain all this to him plus the fact you helped him clean it then I think he will forgive you. He'll probably be a bit angry but he'll get over it.

Thanks for the help guys. I went ahead and told him, admitted it was only a joke, pointed out I helped clean up the mess, and I gave him 10 bucks for a car wash. He said "its cool, just...don't do it again".

So the lesson here is...never mess with someones car

I must agree, everyone needs to understand that a car can be one of those possesion we take pride in.

I think that the majority of people do become emtionaly attached to something they own, whether it be a: house, boat, suit, jewellery, audio equipment. I think it is healthy and people should be invested in what they own, it make life much more enjoyable.

my friends and i do this to eachother all the time. Then again, we don't write such bad things, but it's all taken as a joke.

Today I had a bunch of my girl friends write Valentines stuff all over my car. All over the car. I'll have to wash it later tonight or tomorrow, but I felt like a pimp driving down the road with "I LOVE YOU!!!" all over my car! heh.

I think your friend is a little uptight. As long as it wasn't permanent and didn't damage his car, why is he so pissed?

And I have to agree with Master_Shake - whoever had the bright idea to video tape the thing is an idiot.

Oh yeah, and the guy who wants to show the victim the tape is also fucking stupid. Why the hell would you show the tape to him and risk him getting even more angry??

If he is a friend, you need to STOP people from fucking with his car. Are you really thinking in the friend mode or in the juvenile delinquent mode?

Cars are a valuable asset in our world (especially to a young person who may not have loads of $$ laying around for a paint job).

Sorry for the rant but this is the second thread about this sort of asshat stunt lately.
