Feeling Pressured
Ok so, I am currently on layoff from my job and collecting my employment insurance.
I work in the flexographic printing industry and there hasn't been any jobs in the local paper or on the job sites in the area. My stepfather just told me alittle while ago that a printing company that i know of and have worked with people who have worked there is hiring. This place that is hiring pays the same as the company that i am layed off from. I thought of applying, But it's 12 hour continental shifts..I have worked those shifts before and it's bullshit shifts. My stepfather told me that he is gonna apply just to see what they are gonna offer him and he wants to go in and just see the plant and the machines, Just to see if it's a place he would wanna work..He already has a job..but he's just going to apply out of curiousity i guess. I'm feeling pressured that i have to apply because i am currently not working, But on the other hand i don't wanna work somewhere where i know i'm not gonna be happy...Cause then it just stresses me out, and 12 hour shifts working on a printing press is brutal. I feel like this is gonna make me look not motivated to go out and get a job especially when one just popped up in the industry that i work in...But like i said, I refuse to work somewhere when i know i'm not gonna be happy. It would be a different situation if i had never heard of this company, I would be down there tommorrow morning droppin off my resume. I'm just lookin for alittle feedback, Am i being to picky? or would you do the same and not apply somewhere where you have heard how it is and you know you wouldn't like it? I keep in touch with my current employer and talk to Human Resources and she tells me that things are just slow and that they are hoping soon that they are gonna be calling people back, Now i believe that HR is being up front with me and she says that she wants me to keep in touch because they don't wanna start losing people. This is the first company i have worked for with a HR department, They are suppose to be upfront with the employees right? I haven't really lost hope in my current job in calling me back, I know it's slow around this time. The company that is hiring they print beer boxes and the company that i work for prints food packaging.

It may be a good temporary job, just to keep you busy, but I would say that if you know you would hate it, don't apply. You won't appear lazy if you are actively searching for other work anyway.
Good luck.

If you are looking for a career change then start looking immediately. The sooner you move in the direction of your career change then the better you will be in the long run.
I'm guessing that you might have a problem determining what it is that you want to do. I have no silver bullet for this problem. However, if there was ever a time in your life that you wanted to pursue a career and didnt follow that track -then now is the time to consider that option. |
