Filing Taxes Online: WHich site to trust?

I tried two sites today TurboTax and TaxAct. Each one gave me a different amount for my refund. TurboTax gave me significantly more. Which one should I trust? My taxes are done. I just have to confirm and file. Any advice?

I have never used anything other than turbo tax to file, oustide of doing them by hand. I have never had any problems with it. I would say stick with that one, if you are receiving a larger refund.

Also are the state taxes the same as local taxes? I'm confused with State, Federal, and local taxes.

I used TurboTax to file - although I can't offer any comparisons, as that is the only site I have ever used outside of doing them by hand.

As far as the different types of taxes, state taxes are not the same as local tax. For instance, there is a County wide tax Brown County here for the stadium...

Hope that helps

I've used turbo tax since it was invented...did them by hand before that...I've looked at a few of the others but wasnt nearly as impressed as I am with Turbo. My taxes werent extremely complicated, married filing joint, 1 child, 1st and 2nd mortgage, few pension things etc Turbo tax leaves no stone unturned in asking you questions. I highly recommend it.

I used turbo tax as well, but no way in hell am I paying $11 bucks to get my money back. It's bullshit if you ask me. So I paid 37 cents to file my taxes. Yeah, it's a check that takes a month but it's not lke I need it before next payday or anything.

I've used Turbo tax for about 8 years now. The last 4 I've done online. I think it's great, easy to use and doesn't miss a thing. I tried to do them by hand to compare before, and I was way off, hope that helps.

IN NYC, you've got New York State and New York City taxes. City taxes are considerably lower than State taxes, and if you haven't lived in NY for the full year, then you only pay taxes for the percentage of the year you lived in NY.

Did mine online from some free site the IRS linked to, I'll check in TurboTax when I get home and see if they are different amounts.

Turbotax online is by far the best. Make sure you get the deluxe version, which is 49.99. It's well worth it

Ok just checked my return amount in TurboTax vs www.completetax.com and the return amounts were the same.

http://www.irs.gov/app/freeFile/jsp/index.jsp? is a link to the IRS of Free e-file companies.

I've used turbo tax and complete tax. They're both accurate, reputable and trustworthy.

i've used turbo tax but this year i filed with h&r block. no real reason for the switch though. last year i compared a couple of sites that the irs listed and they all ended up the same so i came to the conclusion that, for me, it really didn't matter all that much.

I am just a poor college student, so I can do mine for free. I have used both TurboTax and H&R Block and not had the slightest trouble with either.

I've used www.freetaxusa.com for 3 years now. They sent my tax return in less than a week. And it's free for us poor college students (or if your just poor).
