Bruising
Last Wednesday I was in a car accident (hit a boulder going about 40, totaled the car, wasn't one part left that worked/could be sold when I junked it) and was pretty drunk at the time (I was the passenger). Anyway I was pretty bruised when I had been hit by the seatbelt, but I found it all pretty funny due to all the alcohol . Now though, I'm wondering how long this pain/ache will last and what I can do to to dull the pain (I'm already taking lots of DiphendydrAMINE Hydrochloride -basically benadryl- l so anything that can make you drowsy I can't take). The nurse that checked me said it was fine and it was just bruising, but having pain in your heart/sternum area still makes me nervous :P. It seems almost worse then it was a couple days ago is the thing that worries me. But maybe I just bruised it worse lifting. Ugh.
Thanks P.S. Poison ivy blooooooooows |
Bayd, first thing you have to do is go to your family doctor and get checked out properly. Nothing against nurses but that is not good enough, not nearly good enough. Next if your having any kind of pain or discomfort its best to get checked out by a physiotherapist, if there is something wrong the sooner its identified the better. Last of all the best thing you can do right now is rest your injuries, lay of the physical activity for awhile. Make sure you get checked out though. Do this, see what they say and follow it. Good luck :)

Well first off I hope it was a regular accident and the driver wasn't drunk as well.
Anyways, yeah I'd agree that a doctor should look at you, perhaps even get an xray to see if there is anything cracked. If not, then good old Motrin/Advil/Ibuprofen or Aleeve/Naproxen should help out with the pain and not make you drowsy. |
Uh yeah, get to the doctor if the pain ever gets worse. And lay off the lifting until you are feeling better. Your muscles will understand...
Story... Good friend here at work had a wife that got in a roll over accident. ER did xrays and everything, said she could go after 2 hours. 2 weeks later tons of pain so she went in for another opinion. They did a lot more tests. She ended up having 6 bones in her neck and back broken and 2 broken ribs. If she would have fallen, or even hit the breaks hard when driving she could have been paralyzed for life. Moral of the story is get a second opinion. Specially when pain gets worse, not better. |
Something like that happened to me. When they checked me out they said i was fine or that i might have a minor concussion. We found out much later, after months of headaches, that i had cracked vertebrae and had totally reversed the curvature of my neck. Hospitals are only good if you need emergency care or surgury. Get checked out properly by someone who will take the proper time
