inflation raise for work?

so im probably facing a situation where im not going to get a raise at work this year. (yeah i know cry me a river right ) Basically I want to go into my work review knowing how much inflation has affected my salary over the year. For instance, the salary I made this past year will not be worth as much next year because of inflation. SO id like to explain this to my boss so he will atleast give me a small raise to equal what last years salary was worth in the real world. If I dont get a raise im actually taking a pay cut do to inflation right? Sorry if that is confusing. Anyway, can anyone point me in the right direction to find out how much less the dollar is worth this year compared to last?

According to the CBC it was 3.3% in 2004.

Most non-union businesses don't give a shit about inflation or cost of living. Instead, they are concerned with cost of labor. This favors workers in a booming economy and employers in a tight one. I'd look up average wages for your particular job in 2003 and compare them with the average salary now. Showing your boss that you are aware of competative salaries might help. Of course, if your salary is above average or it has gone down in the last year, you're just SOL.

He's right. My job is unionized (even though I have issues with the union) and we have inflation raises every year on the anniversary of the contract. But in your situation, it's all on you to prove that you deserve a raise due to inflation. You have to go through the shuffle of documentation, presentations to your boss to prove yourself right. But in times like these, employers don't give a rat’s ass about the individual worker. It's all how much the employer can reduce labor costs.

Which is one reason I'm going to start a business.
