Caffeine sensitivity
Can you develop a sensitivity to caffeine?
Caffeine never really used to affect me. I could drink 3 cups of coffee and still fall right asleep. Lately in the past few months if i have just a cup of tea or coffee my heart feels really fast. I have always had a bad reaction to herbal supplements like guarana or exinidrine (they make my heart race) I'm in fairly good shape it just seems weird that all of a sudden it's bothering me.

Did you stop drinking caffiene before you noticed the sensitivity, or change your lifestyle/diet in any major way?
It is entirely possible to become sensitive to caffiene, i noticed that my usual cup of coffee before work today, after not drinking it for a good couple of weeks, had me buzzing around the house like a demented hummingbird, where as normally i would still be struggling to stay awake. |

I used to at least drink a pot a day until 4 years ago, then I quit cold turkey (no soda, excedrin, etc). The reason is that I had become addicted, if I didn't have at least 2 cups a day, i would spend the next 2 days with a horrible headache. After the initial 2 day headache, I felt better but missed the feeling I got from it (I was tired in the morning). 6 months later I figured I would be good having a can of caffinated soda, spent the next 2 days with a headache. I have not had any caffine (yes I know chocolate and decaf have minimal amounts) since that day and have never felt better. I really isn't that difficult, although most get togethers don't automatically include non-caffinated soda and people who don't know me think I'm Mormon.
Not being a doctor, I firmly believe in the caffine sensitivity, I have had occasions where a waitress has given me regular instead of decaf and I could tell right away, from both the taste and the way it made me feel. |

Heart palpitations (racing heart) are a serious thing. I rarely drink coffee/caffeene unless I really need it. It's a good thing, keeps you from being stressed, less headaches from caffeene withdrawl, no more dependance, ect. If you limit your caffeene intake you can really use it to it's potential (it'll hit you harder when you need it) and it should at least cut down on your heart palpitations.

I could tell when I started drinking a lot of pop that I lost some endurance when I would work-out or run long distances. I've since stop buying pop all together so that I'm not tempted to drink any, but I also have stopped working out and running (and it has been long while too).

i am 43 and have never had a cup of coffee. but, coke, dr. pepper, ice tea were staples for a long long time, even right before bed. i started having problems getting to sleep and stopped hitting caffeine after 6pm.
now, if i have any caffeine whatsoever anytime near 6, i am up till three in the morning. sometimes i forget and ask myself why i can't get to sleep, and then remember i was at a meeting an had a diet coke or something. |
