Need some random re-assurance.
Perhaps this belongs in the "Tilted Sexuality" forum but also fits here to.
My question involves sex/periods/pregnancy Little background... My fiance and I have been together for over 5 years, have had sex for the past 4 years. Also protected, never had a condom break..etc.. About 50% of the time her period is always late and gets concerned over the fact she is worried she is pregnant and somehow someway the period fairy always finds a way to visit her. Currently she is "spotting" very little she says but still something is happening. She was on Birth Control, which made her period very irregular (every 2 weeks sometimes) now she is off BC until she visits the gyno in the next few weeks. Is it possible that since she has gone off BC that her body has to readjust? She was suppose to start today, obviously that hasn't happend, even though she is concerned, she isn't concerned enough to purchase a pregnancy test. Is she just overly concerned? Frankly, I've tried to educate myself on this situation via the internet, but each resource contradicts itself. If anyone can relate to this situation any reply would be helpful. Thanks

You can always purchase a pregnancy test yourself & ask her to relieve your worries. She definately has some problems with her cycles though. And she shouldn't be worrying about being pregnant all the time. That stress can be very hard on a person's health. You two should really discuss some other forms of birth control.

Generally birth control pills help to regulate cycle, but I suppose, that the reverse could be true depending on what brand she was given. Spotting is also normal.
It's good she is going to the doctor soon, what she should really do, is write down every single one of her concerns, even if it seems silly, and talk to her doctor about it. It's easier to write it down, and schedule the time to talk to the doctor, because when you are naked and in stirrups, most thoughts tend to leave one's head, and all you want to do is sit up again. (plus the doctor is often rushed)

Unfortunately, every woman's body reacts differently to birth control pills. However, if she had an irregular period to begin with, and was irregular even ON the pills, I would not be a bit surprised if her cycle was thrown off after going off the pill. Mine was like clockwork on the pill, and even so when I went off for a time I was several weeks late and ready to take a pregnancy test before I finally got my period.
If you're concerned, $12 is not too much to pay for over-the-counter peace of mind until she can see her gyno. When she talks to her doctor, she might want to find out about a different pill that might make her cycles more regulated. That should help keep the baby worries away.

Birth Control can mess up the cycle, and while generally you will start the cycle when stopping it, if she was having spotting problems then that is not the case. I wouldn't worry about it honestly, but if you can't get over it, then preg tests are definitely a good method of reassurance.

FYI guys, the preg test you get over the counter is the same as the ones the hospital uses to do a urine pregnancy test.
also, i TOTALLY sympathize with her- i know what it's like to be going "holy god i'm two days late!!!" ![]() |

How old is she? It's been my observation (and personal experience) that when women are young, say, under 25, it can take their periods a while to settle down and get regular. Mine were everything from 2 weeks to 45 days when I was younger (now you could almost set your watch by them). Add the birth control pills and all that stress into the mix, and you've got quite a little mess on your hands. I know, I spent years going through that and similar scenarios. She probably needs her dosage adjusted and hopefully then things will settle down. Good luck!

![]() See? Now don't you feel silly for all that anxiety? Kidding, I'd probably have been worried as well.
