The Best Electric Razor II

This was posted in January but I would like to get input regarding any new razors this year and get some fresh input on the topic.

I have a Norelco right now (I don't remember the model). It costs about $50.00 and the blades (which need to be replaced) cost about $40.00. Since the razor isn't that good, I don't think buying new blades is very cost effective. I have tried other razors like the Mach series. What a joke! In order to get a good shave out of those, I need to do it twice! And that is with a brand new blade.

So....what is the best thing out there now?

I'm a bit curious as to anyone that knows too. I don't need to shave often, but my chin is just enough to need it every other day or so (I can't grow a beard or mustache to save my life). Anyone have any ideas, as I myself am in the market for a good realiable electric shaver.

For electric, I personally like the Braun serries, especially the self-cleaning ones. Check them out, you can look up stuff online. Propercare, cleaning and maintenance will make your shaver last longer and not have to change the foil or cutter blocks as often.

For safety razor, I like Gilette Mach 3 series. Make sure you use a good shaving cream or gel.

A good way to shave in general is combo (dry/wet).

1. Shave lip and chin areas (that's goatee and moustache) with the electric (dry). Shave neck, cheek, sideburns etc with the safety razor (wet).

2. When shaving dry, DO NOT wash your face first or take a shower first. Just shave straight up. The hairs are at their most stiff and makes it easier for the electric to cut.

3. When shaving wet, it is best to wash/soak your face in hot water. Ideally you should do it in the shower after 15 minutes (but really, what guy is in there for more than 5?) or when you step out. The hairs are softened and pores opened making it easier to shave.

Make sure you use a good after shave and moisturizer too. It really isn't as time consuming as it sounds. I hate this type of stuff but I find this way is not too bad and works well.

I'll second the Braun self-cleaning. I switched from a Braun to a Norelco about five years back and was very disappointed. I finally gave up and went back to Braun a year ago and am kicking myself for waiting so long.

I've been using the Philips Philishave electric shaver and I am pleased with the results. The Philishave does not have self cleaning, but I am very sure that some of the more recent models have self cleaning. Philips is actually the market leader in shavers, and it has been around the longest. The shave is smooth, and it is very easy to clean it . The battery lasts for a year, and it is rechargeable.
