I'm going to Madrid and looking for must eats, and must sees. I know there are lots of museums, but the wife was museumed out by her mother at an early age so I doubt we'll make it to any museums.

We're debating on renting a car for the week, but do have one reserved currently.

There are lots of tapas places all over madrid; tapas is great way to sample lots of different dishes.. In Old Madrid there is Lhardy which I like (it is kind of expensive)

Where will you be staying ? I'm going to be MAD next week (Thanksgiving) I can update you'll want.

The public transport is just fine - If you want to go outside MAD then maybe a rental is a good idea.

thanks... last October we went to Costa Del Sol staying in Marbella and enjoyed that tremendously.

It was hard for us to get into the clock cycle of the Spaniards, but I am confident that we will be able to do so faster this time.

Tapas are awesome, we're looking forward to more Jamon Serrano

Madrid is a beautiful city to wander around in...I'd advise against a car, as the traffic in Madrid is insane. But, if you like extreme sports, go for it. If you're not up for museums, I'd say just wander around. No better way to explore a city, IMO.

Toledo is an interesting old city just about 45 minutes via bus from Madrid, so if you get bored, that might be an interesting place to hit up.

upon looking.. we don't have a place to stay there yet... so any recommendations are good.

Just retuned from MAD - Ouch! The Euro is killing us Stayed near Puerto del Sol. WIll post more details later.....

Had a great visit.. stayed in two different hotels...

HH Campomanes

Small boutique hotel in Old Madrid near the Opera House and Palacio Real. 99 Euros and it included breakfast.

And

Hotel Preciados at 129 Euros no breakfast. It was just a few blocks from Campomanes, but was a bit more upscale towards business travellers. No breakfast, but free minibar.
