Living at home (and NOT bitching)

I am a college student who is living with his parents to save money. My little brother makes this whole living arrangement worse by being a noisy little brat. It is very loud here and it sucks, especially when I'm reading for class.

Anyways.

I need earplugs/earmuffs or some other noise protection device. Can anyone recommend a good, comfortable pair that blocks out as much sound as possible?

they're expensive - but I have a set of BOSE
http://www.bose.com/controller?event...adphones_index

(I don't remember where I bought mine, but I bought the floor model for 1/2 price - -and are worth every penny- I use them on the plane all the time and it gets really quiet)

Most music stores have the noise reduction headphones, the ones I've seen are starting at 100 bucks

Why not just find a better place to read? Or you can practice focusing techniques. I'm also a college student who's living at home with his parent (and also not bitching), and I have two younger brothers. Now they're not really annoying, per se, but they do make a lot of noise. There are places to read, just look.

I take it you don't live in a two-bedroom apartment.

Funny thing is, I DO live in a two-bedroom apartment. My dad sleeps in one room, my bro's in the other, and I sleep on the floor in the living room on a mattress.

That's funny. I actually have my own room, and my brother sleeps in my parents' room, on a different bed. But the walls and doors aren't soundproof. I need something that will completely isolate me from the outside world when I am reading.

My walls aren't sound-proof either. The TV is always on in the living room... I dunno. I can just block noises out at will so I can read. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Yeah, my sister and I share a room so it can be difficult. I don't know of any earphones/muffs actually, but do you have any bookstores nearby? Those can be awesome when you need to read and work for awhile.

You can always go down to the hardware store and pick up some ear plugs. I work different shifts sometimes and these let me sleep while everyone else is running around the house.

I bought some foam earplugs from Walgreens, and they seem to work reasonably well.

If you're still looking for headphones, try Headroom. They are expensive compared to the stuff you find in wal-mart and Target, but some of the in-the-ear-canal headphones are capable of blocking 20dB+ of sound.
