FuN fUn FuN tHrEaD: how much is your gas utility bill?
I called my gas company to ask how much the average gas bill is for the place I will probably be moving to next month. She said on average $164/month. I thought "Holeey SHIT." Is this normal for a medium/small 2 bedroom house in a cold winter state? I'm not trying to heat an airport!

I dunno, but ours is about $60/month in the winter for gas, and it rarely gets all that cold here, and we turn the heater all the way off at night. So, $160 in really cold weather? Yeah.
Other things that can pump up gas usage are gas-powered clothes driers and traditional gas water heaters. Some of my friends are saving several hundred a year on natural gas by buying European-style gas water heaters that only heat water on demand (but instantly). They generate very intense heat, but when you need hot water instead of coming on at intervals all day and all night to keep a full tank of water at 130 degrees. |
