"Blue Highways"...
Don't know if any of you are into back roads, but this was a wonderful little trip.
Last summer anitra and I took a trip from the Lake of the Ozarks to Bmidiji, Mn., completely on two lane highways. Took my little Miata convertable, and made much of the trip with the top down. Lots of little towns with 35 MPH speed limits, but we were in no hurry. Mom and pop cafes, country fried steak with three sides, Visiting with locals at fuel stops. Stayed in bed and breakfast inns, we got to see the local color, and meet local people staying there. On the entire trip, about 2,500 miles I don't think we drove over 100 miles on four lane highways. If you ever have the time, and inclination, we highly reccomend such an outing. Doesn't matter where you go, just get there the hardest way you can, you won't be sorry. Note to the guys...keep your eye on your lady when on those back roads...sometimes they get kinda frisky! |

ah, yeah, i'm a huge fan of back roads. that sounds great. i know nothing of the strip of america between chicago and california (though i do know those two edges). also know nothing about the south, except florida. good old urban coast-dwellers.
i'll get to those places some day, though-- presumably, i have six decades left to get there... |
