Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Just curious. I'm starting to think about planning mine for April/May 2005. We're strongly leaning towards going to Kauai and Maui. We were in Kauai in 2003 (and loved it) and never have been to Maui. The downside is that it'll definitely be pricey.

Where did you go and do you recommend it for a honeymoon?

Well, I can't answer your question since my honeymoon won't be until October of 2005 but we will be going to Fiji and Hawaii (1 week apiece).

No where. We got married while we were in the middle of a semester, and couldn't take time out. And we just haven't ever planned anything. I've talked about going to Vegas for a few days, or a cruise, but she doesn't want to get away without the kids.

We went to Zihuatenejo, Mexico. The beaches in Zihuatenejo were a bit dirty. So, we spent time on the beaches of Ixtapa. They were nice and clean, but crowded and filled with high rises. I wouldn't recommend Zihuatenejo or Ixtapa. I tend to prefer nice, quite, mellow resort areas. That said, I really liked the Pacific side of Mexico.

The Akumal Caribe resort near Playa del Carmen was very nice (on the east side of Mexico). I've been there 3 times, but never with my wife. Very mellow.

There's a resort called Diamante K in Tulum, Mexico. It's quiet, really nice, not too flashy and really really romantic. You'll live in bungalows on the beach. There's even some fantastic Maya-ruins on the beach further down. And the restaurant is awesome. No more than 2-3 hours from the airport in Cancun, it's easy and no hassle to get there. Someone even told me it was the location where they had filmed some european temptation island.

My thoughts when I was there was that this was the spot I was going back to when I'm ever going on a honeymoon. It's sorta secluded, so beatiful and really romantic. And it probably won't break your budget.

Here is my own photo of the beach, seen from the Maya ruins:

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. My wife wanted to go to Disney World for our honeymoon. Even though I thought we should go to a more romantic place, we ended up going to Disey anyway....and we had a blast! It was just the right mix of romance and excitement for us. We're not the lay-on-the-beach-and-drink-pina-colada type of people, and they have lots of different activities for adults that aren't kid oriented.

And conratulations in advance for the big day!

We went this past June for our honeymoon to the Mayan Riviera. I stood right where shrubbery above stood and took a similar picture one day on a trip to the Tulum ruins.

We stayed closer to Playa Del Carmen though at an all inclusive resort. Usually that's not our style but after the crazy year we'd been through we just felt like lying around the pool drinking 'free' drinks for a week. Anyway, it was great and you can see some of the pics here: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=63414

I'd say, just check to see what the general climate is for the time of year you are visiting. We honeymooned in October, and wanted to be outside of the hurricane belt, so we went to Aruba.

We went to a little town about a half-hour outside of Puerto Vallarta called Bucieres (sp?). We rented a house overlooking the ocean out in the middle of nowhere and spent two weeks doing nothing (well somethings)

When we were married we were just out of school and relatively broke. One of our friend's parents own a condo in Panama City Beach, FLA. They gave it to us for a week and a bit.

The road trip from Toronto to Panama City Beach was half the fun... the stay in the condo was great. It was right on the beach (off the beaten path).

I just realized that it was 11 years ago...

We went to Capri.
Not the Isle of Capri casino in Louisiana, but the real one, an island off of Italy. the beaches were mostly rocks, but the scenery, rocky cliffs and startlingly blue water were breathtaking, as was the view from our balcony.

Oh, and we just got back from Maui and loved it. We stayed up in the Kapalua area (north of Lahaina) and it was beautiful. One word of caution, if you are a diver this is a long way from most of the dive operators. They tend to leave out of Kihei and want you at the docks at 6:30 in the morning and it was an hour drive each way to get there. However, the dives were well worth it.

We are from Texas and we went to New Hampshire and stayed at a bed and breakfast in the White Mountains. I thought it was awesome. It was secluded and set at the base of Mt. Washington. Very beautiful. She didn't really enjoy it. Btw, we're divorced now. Was it the honeymoon?

We went to Maui and Kauai for our honeymoon and loved every second of it. Stayed at a really nice B&B in Kauai in Hanalei Bay - if you like sushi, go to Sushi & Blues for dinner (assuming it's still there). We stayed in Kihei on Maui which makes it convenient to get anywhere else on the island. While I would describe Kauai as being a romantic type of getaway, Maui is more laid back and geared towards the beach, sun, golf, etc. You really can't go wrong on either island.

Peter Island in the BVI. We went for a week and it was incredible. Perfect place for a honeymoon. It is a small single resort island. Only 52 guestrooms. If I could do it over again and take two weeks instead of one I would have enjoyed sailing around the BVA a bit more. Say 4 days at Peter Island, a week of sailing and island hopping, then 3 more days at Peter Island. We took a day trip to Virgin Gorda which was cool. The baths have the best snorkeling! Virgin Gorda was cool but we couldn't wait to get back to PI!

We went to Vancouver BC- it was so fun! Short, inexpensive trip, but we had a blast.
It was funny, because we had no hotels booked when we got there at 7:00 at night, but found a Holiday Inn right downtown and it was really cool!

We wnt on a cruise. It was the worst travel experience we've ever had (and we've been backpacking in India!). However, we also did a 1-day excursion on a sailboat. That was the best expoerience we've ever had. So great, in fact, that we've decided that we're going to move on to a sailboat and cruise when we retire. A one week rental, with captain is about $3000.

We went to Disneyland and it was the perfect honeymoon for us!

However, as someone who has been a tonne of times to both Maui and Kauai (and numerous Mexico locations), and you love relaxing beach vacations - stick with Kauai... Honestly, it's my favorite of every beach vacation we have ever taken.

We went to London and Paris for one week each. We loved it. Paris, of course, gave me the feeling that the city is a big outdoor art museum. While it was prettier than London, I nonetheless felt that London has much more character, if that makes any sense. Anyway, we had a wonderful time and I highly recommend these two places if you're looking for something other than a relax on the beach type of honeymoon.

Depends on what you’re looking for. My wife and I spent our honeymoon at a spa in Telluride, CO. After all the stress involved in getting married going to a spa in a relaxing place was just what we needed. I'd also consider St. John, USVI - One of the most beautiful places on the planet. Also, Mexico has some hidden treasures. Try Sayulita (just north of Puerto Vallarta) and Tulum in the Mexican Riviera.

Went on a cruise in the caribbean. Fantastic trip. It's nice to always have food around (you are constantly stuffed). And there is non stop entertainment, which is really nice. You get to see a bunch of different places, and we didn't have a care in the world we were there. If you go, rent a room with a balcony. It's a great place for a late night romp, but keep it down, there are neighbors only a few feet away

I just got back from my honeymoon. We spent two days in London, ten days in Scotland and two days in Paris. It was wonderful! London was exciting, lots to do and see. Scotland was beautiful. IMHO Scotland is the most beautiful place on earth. We actually got married there in a castle and rented a car and toured around. I would move there tomorrow if I could. Paris was ok, kind of smelly and not as nice as I found Scotland. The UK is expensive with the current exchange rate and all but the trip was well worth it. Sounds like you are looking more for tropical lushness and warm weather but for me Scotland can't be beat.

Married and Honeymoon in Nassau, but at your posted time, the water would be too cold to enjoy. We went towards the end of May, and the water was still pretty cold. We only saw a couple of people go into the water the entire 14 days were stayed at the resort.

I took my wife to Germany for 5 weeks. We set up basecamp in Berlin, and took daytrips throughout the rest of the country, staying a night or two in other cities. She'd never been to Europe before, and I was constantly running back and forth on business, so she wanted to see where I was hanging out. You can easily spend 5 weeks in Berlin alone and not see everything on display in the museums. The only place we didn't like was Hamburg. From my point of view, it was nice to see part of Europe without digging through 60 year old military depots looking for cool swag to buy.

1st marriage, Sandels in Negril Jamaica 'mon. What a great time. It's kind of a young couples fun-in-the-sun resort. There was something going on every minute (usually having to do with drinking or sex). If you wanted to relax... the beach or hammock was a few steps away. So much fun we returned with 3 other couples 2 years later... EVEN MORE fun.

Opps, married wrong girl... this time #2 and I are looking at a cruise through the Medditerainian (can't spell tonight).

I just got married this past July, and we went to the Hawiian Island of Kauii. We lodged at the Aston Islander on the Beach. The hotel was so so, but Kauii is an amazing island. There is a ton to see and do, and the beaches are really amazing. We went snorkling, and swam with the dolphins. Its a long freakin flight though from Tampa.
