So I have Balanitis..

Yeah, This morning when I went to the shower, took one look at my dick, thought "Wow, it grew even more!"
Then I thought something was wrong here..
The skin around my head (Im uncircumsized) was HUGE!
And the rest of my dick was the same size :(
So I looked on WebMD for diseases with symptoms (SP?)
like this and came up with Balanitis.

What Is Balanitis? Balanitis is an inflammation of the skin covering the head of the penis. A similar condition, balanoposthitis, refers to inflammation of the head of the penis and the foreskin. Symptoms of balanitis include redness or swelling, itching, rash, pain, and a foul-smelling discharge. What Causes Balanitis? Balanitis most often occurs in men and boys who have not been circumcised (had their foreskin surgically removed), and who have poor hygiene. Inflammation can occur if the sensitive skin under the foreskin is not washed regularly, allowing sweat, debris, dead skin and bacteria to collect under the foreskin and cause irritation. The presence of tight foreskin may make it difficult to keep this area clean and can lead to irritation by a foul-smelling substance (smegma) that can accumulate under the foreskin. Other causes of balanitis may include: Dermatitis/allergy -- Dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin, often caused by an irritating substance or a contact allergy. Sensitivity to chemicals in certain products -- such as soaps, detergents, perfumes and spermicides -- can cause an allergic reaction, including irritation, itching and a rash. Infection -- Infection with the yeast candida albicans (thrush) can result in an itchy, spotty rash. Certain sexually transmitted diseases -- including gonorrhea, herpes and syphilis -- can produce symptoms of balanitis. In addition, men with diabetes are at greater risk for balanitis. Glucose (sugar) in the urine that is trapped under the foreskin serves as a breeding ground for bacteria. How Is Balanitis Treated? Treatment for balanitis depends on the underlying cause. If there is an infection, treatment will include an appropriate antibiotic or antifungal medication. In cases of severe or persistent inflammation, a circumcision may be recommended. Taking appropriate hygiene measures can help prevent future bouts of balanitis. In addition, it is important to avoid strong soaps or chemicals, especially those known to cause a skin reaction.
EDIT: Sorry link doesnt work..

Has anyone had this before? How do I treat it? Does it go away?

In other words, go see a doctor.

It could be a "simple" bacteria infection, in which case you need antibiotics. It could be a VD. It could be fungal.

If you haven't, in the future, wash under your foreskin more often. This can reduce the chance you will get it again.

Ok today in the morning it was basically away (just a little swollen) and now in the afternoon its completely gone.
Maybe it had something to do with my masturbating for and hour and not coming the night before.

Good for you. I had similar problems about 3 weeks ago. I used some bacterial cream and the whole problem seemed to go away. Just remember to keep it clean and dry dude.

Sorry to bring this back from the very dead but searched and got this.

I think that i might have this, Balanitis. I noticed it couple weeks when wanking that I couldnt really pull my foreskin as far back as I usually could (I'm uncircumsized). When I think back it "seems" to have occured after using some no-name brand condom (was in a bind).

After reading the same article from WebMD, being a guy, I figured even more regiment cleaning would make it go away instead of a visit to the doctor's. But it has not and hence this thread.

I know that I've gotta see a doctor about this, but I got some questions:

Do I just go to my regular family doctor?
Or do I need to see some type of specialist?
Or will my doctor refer me to a specialist?
Or is there some over the counter "anti-something" that I can buy?

I'm really hoping that there's an over the counter thing cuz it feels kinda embarrasing to go to a doc's office and just drop my pants (i know they're professionals but still).

any help is appreciated.

It's embarrasing, but it's necessary. It might not be anything. Even if it is, your gp can probably treat it. If you need to see a specialist, he'll refer you.

Just bite the bullet and go. When it comes to the wang, you really don't want to take any chances.

I couldn't agree more.

Haha. I was going to say....

It is tough for me to comprehend how someone can wait for advice from us to see a doctor, especially when it's your best friend. You should be posting a thread on your way out the door!!

Humans run in packs, for all our posturing as rugged, self-motivated individualists. Sometimes we need the pack to tell us what we already know, to help us get off the stick (so to speak) and take action.
