help on finding articles for project
so I'm taking some summer courses for cheap credit, and one of my classes calls for me to find 20 articles (10 published from inside US, 10 published from outside US) from newspapers, magazines, etc and write a short paragraph for each one. The only problem is I have practically zero resources for this (other than my small town's daily paper...), and I work every hour that the library is open, so I have to use the internet to find some articles. Yet another problem....I have no idea where to look.
What are some good sites that would have articles and stuff for me to look at for free? Also, the articles have to have been published within the last 2 months. Right now I'm working on the ones published from within the US and they have to be about population, language, or religion (or maybe just mention those) anywhere...so if anybody knows of any good recent articles about any of those that would be appreciated as well. Thanks |
Go to the actual newspaper's sites.
Greenville News is greenvilleonline.com The State (South Carolina) is thestate.com Just some examples from SC. |
these are the news sites that I will hit during the course of the day
These two are two news "dumps" they generally will have the biggest news stories of the day - and it gets updated daily Drudge Report Short News Good for foreign news - they also have a lot of wacky news stories Ananova Links to the some of the north jersey papers - like the bergen record and North Jersey News An excellent news search engine Google News CNN is organized pretty well cnn If you get more specific about what you are looking for - that migh help narrrow down the search |
awesome! thanks guys. I guess i was just looking in the wrong places...all the newspaper sites I found required a subscription. I guess I didn't look that hard though since the first few were like that and i gave up hope. That google news search is incredible though. I easily found 10 articles that'll work that were published today!! thanks again.

For sites that you have to register for... Check this godsend out --
Bug me Not Enter the newspaper URL - and it will give you a login name and password if it exists - they have most of the news websites out there.... |
For foreign sources: THE GUARDIAN!!! http://www.guardian.co.uk - it is a left-leaning (nay - very liberal) UK Newspaper with an astonishingly comprehensive and free web site.
Also: The BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk The Economist is (mostly) a pay site, howver some 10-20% of articles are free and are amazingly well researched: http://www.economist.co.uk |
