Best thing to drink down the pub
I have recently decided to get fit. I never used to have to worry about my weight, but ever since I was about 22, I've been very gradually growing a belly.
As a Brit, much, if not most of my social activity unavoidably centres around going to the pub. I don't want to give up my social life to get fit, but I know that beer is supposed to be fattening. I was wondering what the least unhealthy thing to drink at the pub is. I don't want to stop getting drunk or be stigmatised and beaten up for drinking red wine (the healthiest of alcoholic drinks) I'm sure spirits with fizzy mixers are just as unhealthy as beer, so what's the answer? G and T? Or am I just not dedicated enough? |
Glass of tap water probably!
I've always heard that white wine spritzers with soda water are not too bad for you if your dieting. The again you probably need to think about being beaten up for drinking it. Why don't you just limit your consumption? 1 or 2 beers and then diet cola can't be 'that' bad for you. I also think lager is better for you then bitter. |
The higher the proof the more calories. For example 1 1/2 ounces 80 proof contains 97 calories and it just goes up from there.
7.5-ounce gin and tonic: 171 calories and a 3 ounce whiskey sour: 122 calories..thats not too bad at all unless you need a lot to get a buzz goen. If you go to the pub you can still drink beer just maybe watch what you are eating with it. Most people eat high calorie snacks when drinking so maybe cut back on those. http://www.theraven.com/beer.html That site has a list of beers and their calorie content. |
Despite the taste, tonic water is full of sugar.
Club soda, however, is not. Your whiskey of choice with soda, perhaps? |
yeah good idea, whiskey and soda, that's hardcore. And the bubbles are supposed to help you absorb the alcohol faster, so you wouldn't need to drink as much ... mind you, I drank a glass of red wine in a pub recently and didn't get beaten up - just don't ask for a straw eh? ;)

Most of my mates in the pub drink beer by the pint. I can't stand the bloated feeling beer gives me and seem to get hopelessly sloshed after two glasses of wine. I drink spirits but a Gand T is gone in half the time it takes the others to glub the beer down so for some time now I've been enjoying a large diet soda with a neat dark rum on the side. Works for me. Some folks seem to think it is odd for a woman to drink neat spirits but I care not what they think...and very enjoyable it is too...especially swigging it out of a hip flask during the fith day of the test at Lords.

Maybe a light beer would be a good choice, but it might be a bit tough finding a draft light-beer. Maybe a big fat doobie before you go down the pub - that way you look like you're drunk and you can nurse the beer in your hand.

just drink faster and eat less beforehand. :)

i would say, dont eat anything with a good dark beer! They fill you up, and are good beer too, but thats just my personaly oppinion

You my friend are exactly where I am. I am 34 now and have been growing a slight gut since 28. I have a an immense love for beer. I must however give it up as the gut has to go.
My answer: Ketel One Ketel one and tonic is the best low calorie drink IMHO. Great vodka, perfect taste and NO hangovers. Being a brit you can find it cheaper I would think than here in the states as its made in Holland. Give it a shot. |
