Eating Mayo will help growth! Myth or Fact?
I've been doing some search on how to be taller ('cause I'm a dwarf ) and I've stumbled on to this forum that suggests eating mayo to help growing. I don't know how valid this "advice" is and I would like to know if this actually works or not....any thought?

Yeah, eating it will make you fat. That's it. It's just a mixture of a bunch of oils and stuff.
Growing is something that's in your genes. Unless you go to China- they have underground doctors that will break your legs and then slowly help them grow out. Of course, you risk paralysis.... |

There is no way to get substantially taller after puberty. Mayonaise is mostly eggs and fat, it will not make you grow any taller. The only scientific method I have heard of (and someone can correct me if I get the numbers wrong) is Human Growth Hormone injections, which only yield about an extra inch of height and the cost is around $100,000.
I am 5'8", which is a little on the short side (I think the U.S. average is around 5'10" for males). It used to bother me back in my teenage years, but now I don't think about it. As cliche' as it sounds, you just have to accept your body.

Hey, you are definately NOT a dwarf! (Not that there is anything wrong with that!). I'm 5'6" and have had a very successful and happy life! Lots of successful and famous guys were of "below average" height. Henry Winkler, Michael J. Fox, Bruce Lee, WWII war hero Audie Murphy, Humphrey Bogart and a host of others! Many of whom have dated supermodels, or so I choose to believe. Personally I have found many advantages - I can fit into cool small sports cars with ease, my lower center of gravity gives me an advantage in many martial ars, I take up less space so my house seems bigger and in my dating life lots of pretty girls didn't have a problem with it so I don't either! Odds are you won't get any taller so try to be happy with your height and maybe work on something else. Use your height to your advantage, martial arts or maybe weight lifting. I've seen supposedly "little" guys that could lift a truck!
BTW, The mayo thing sounds a little goofy to me, I think that will just make you wider. Just work-out, stay fit and healthy and enjoy your life.

5'6" is no big deal. I'm 5'5". I've known lots of people men and women personally who were 5'6" and it wasn't a big deal. There's no set highth that will make a person look handsome or make them stronger or anything. A person's percieved hight is how tall his character is. What are you like inside. Unless the girl is exceptionally taller than you and unless she's very shallow she's hardly going to notice your hight.
Mayo will probably just make you taller when you are lying down. You DON'T want that.

KellyC, I know sometimes it's hard to accept yourself. For me, I'm selfconscious about my skin. But some things just have to play themselves out. You shouldn't have to get a a painful surgery that takes years to get used to in order to gain a few inches. 5'6 is NOT short. It may not be the average height for guys, but I don't think your height will affect the way people perceive your character.
I hope you can learn to be happy with yourself! PS: As a girl, I know that tall guys can be sexy, but in the end, it's just a HUGE neckcrink (from having to lean your head back for kissing). |

Actually, there have been a few cases of guys growing an inch or two during college, but don't get your hopes up.
My brother is 5'5" and it makes my grandmother really mad, for whatever reason. Last time I went home she asked if there was any kind of a shot that could make him grow taller. A SHOT?!!>>! |

I'm 5'5.5", and I don't let it bother me. I wish I was a little heavier, though. All I can do now is drink milk everyday and hope for the best. Most of the tall asian people I know say they used to drink a ton of milk and/or eat a lot of cheese when they were kids.
You still have hope, though. One black guy I knew grew 1.5 inches during the summer between his freshman and sophomore year in college. |

The stretching of the discs or whatever also occurs here on earth. I saw a piece on it on one of those cheesy 20/20 or 60 minute type shows where they had people measure themselves on a wall before they went to sleep, and then had them measure themselves on the wall right after they woke up in the morning. The people were usually 1-2 inches taller in the morning because while you're sleeping (and therefore usually laying down) gravitity isn't vertically compressing your spine, which somehow allows the discs to expand. Of course, during the normal course of the day we get compressed back down to our normal heights. Kind of interesting.
