Paxil Withdrawal
I only found a bit about this after doing a search in here, and a few of the people who this applied to were banned, so I was wondering...
How many of you here have experienced withdrawal from antidepressants, Paxil in particular? They're trying to ween me off of Paxil right now because it did NOTHING for me, and I'm having the worst withdrawal of my life. Blurred vision, constant cold sweats, numbness, feeling little "shocks" or tremors go down my body every 30 seconds or so. Its the worst feeling I've ever had, and its been interfering with my life on a daily basis for the past week or so as I'm trying to come off of it and start another switch, this time over to Remoran. Were it not for a very good friend I talk to on a daily basis, I don't know how I'd keep my sanity. I swear, quitting alcohol 3 years ago was easier than this. I've been put on Remoran for now to help me sleep, but its insane. It knocked me out COLD after a few days of about 3 hours sleep a night (er, morning), to the point where I feel more tired than I've ever felt before, even after several hours of sleep. This blows. |
I've never gone through withdrawel but I watched my Dad go through it. I don't think he took Paxil but he was on Zoloft as well as some narcotic pain medications. Dr's just kept giving him more and more junk and he kept getting worse and more suicidal. He decided to drop it all at once - probably not the best idea because he was just miserable for a couple days. He's much better now. Takes over the counter pain meds and nothing else. He's actually sane now. Watching him I could see the pain, frustration, and turmoil in his eyes when he went off the stuff. Hugs - it will get better. Glad you have a friend who's there for you right now.

Well, my wife went though this a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't that bad though. She had forgotten to fill her script. She's not on paxil though. I certainly wouldn't want to go through what she did.
Good luck, and keep strong, the feelings will pass in time. |

note to self : maybe proscribed medication would be a better phrase ;) |
I went off of paxil for a few days and I wouldn't say I went thru withdrawals but I would say that the symptoms I had before I went on it came back so I started taking it again. I'm trying to only take it during the week when I'm at work because I tend to get over stressed. Good luck.

Its not a true withdraw. Its called Serotonin Syndrome and is caused by the sudden drop of serotonin in the nerve synapses that occurs when stopping an SSRI antidepressant. These meds should be weaned off slowly, especially at higher doses.

That was the idea, as they had me on a fairly large dosage. Things are unfortunately no better today. This is the worst feeling I've ever felt.

clonodine and klonopin(what one doctor i know reccomends) for withdrawal symptoms like that and that's what he uses to take people off methadone along with using tranzene. it's like valium but not as addictive.

I took me about three weeks to be "completely" rid of the side effects of Paxil, it does get better, well at least for me it did. I was on it for almost over a year. and i stopped cold turkey...Good luck

Fortunately the majority of the symptoms have ceased, with the exceptions of the occasional muscle spasm/tremors. Thats an experience I hope to never have to go through again.

congratulations mate, good to hear the worst is over... how long did it last in total?
|
I have. Paxil is the Devil. That is all.
