What do you "use" TFP for?

Personally, I have found that I was lacking intellectual interaction with a peer group. It has become increasingly difficult to hold any form of stimulating debate, or even conversation with people who have something relevant to contribute. Here, at least, we seem to have a diverse group of opinions and people willing to communicate.
Somewhat refreshing, in my opinion.

Why are all of you here?

i won't lie, the titty board is awesome. from there, I went onto check out the Sexuality Forum, which is an enlightened and open place to speak about anything dealing with sexuality. It's a wonderful forum. The rest of the forums are wonderful because they cover such a broad range of topics, that you can ask questions and generally get a wise and informed answer from the wonderful user base that visits this place.
In turn, I try to participate in discussions that interest me, and answer questions when I can.

I'm here for the community, and the people. I love the ability to be civil and discuss things. It's a great place. Tilted motors, the MP, just everything. I visit and lurk in them all, and post almost everywhere.

The people. I can find porn mostly anywhere. With a 9 month old, a wife, work, and a new house I don't have much social time.
Okay. Now I'm depressed. When did I get old? he he

Its a good way to kill time. I enjoy this over other ways of killing time because some genuinely insightful conversation goes on here, not something I find often elsewhere.

I just love the intellectual freedom. The ability to have intelligent conversation, as you said. I've always been an argumentative person, and this allows me to express my opinion to many people. I'm completely addicted to the TFP.

I like to read a lot of the boards such as general topics and knowledge to learn about world events, others' perspectives on them and so forth. I've learn a little here and there reading posts and it's also fun teaching others new things. A secondary reason: to quench boredom.

I'll admit it, I became aware of the TFP because of the Titty Board. It was a link from fark I think... or something like that.

But the more time I spent here, I began to see that there are some of the most facinating people and opinions on here. Now I spend most of my time in the living, philosophy, and general discussion forums

I also like it because there are some very enlightened people on here that always have a different point of view, or another way of thinking than I do, and I find that refreshing. It's a great place to come and analyze your opinion of the world and do some critical thinking. Also the mods don't allow alot of nay-saying or negative opinions on here for very long. It keeps the simple minded and trash out, and I like that.

...plus, the titty board is still a great place go when I just want to blow off.....some frustrations..... yeah.

ditto for me... but after i got here, i was distracted by the wide range of other topics and forgot to even go to the titty board (right away, at least).

i had been searching for a new forum to post on for a little while... the community i was a part of previously had regressed into a high-schoolish pile of garbage and i couldn't stand even lurking there anymore. anyway, i was intrigued by the "evolution of humanity, sexuality, and philosophy" tagline, so i registered, lurked a little while, and now i'm hooked.

hmm... well i guess since i spend most of my hours home alone with just 2 canines & 1 feline, it's nice to socialize.
i think i have made some friends in the nonsense forum.

increasingly of recent i have less time to read & post, but i take my break times with tfp.

i love the creativity forums, especially photography.
these are areas i wish to improve in & i appreciate seeing & hearing what others are doing, learn from them & share when i can.

overall, tfp has nice people in all areas & i feel like if i have a question about something in any of the forums, i will get a kind & appropriate reply.

thanks tfpers for making this such a nice board to be a part of.

a little over two years ago, it was the titty board that brought me here (then again, there wasn't really anything else at the time). while i still frequent the TB, i definitely see the TFP as a community that I come to for advice, secondarily, and primarily as a place where I can kill some time and contribute my thoughts. everybody should be thanking Hal (halx) for his amazing skill in creating and maintaining an open-minded and pleasant community.

To express my sense of humor, to find things to make me laugh, to keep up with the trendy "hip" lingo of today's young punks (right on, daddy-o ), and I post stuff in Artwork in the hope that someone will acknowledge my presence. Thanks to those who do.

Edit: Oh, yeah, and sometimes someone will post something really interesting that will make me re-examine my stance on certain issues and try to see things from the other point of view as a test to see if I have valid reasons for holding the opinions that I hold in an attempt to grow and learn and evolve as a thinking being. But not often.

I use it for ADULT conversation and venting.

I'm home all day with no adults around. My neighbors all go to work. I have kids only here. 2 and 3 yr olds aren't exactly conversation material. Here I can find adult subjects to discuss in an adult way. Plus I can vent about the kids or life or stress when I need to in my journal.

exactly the same reason. My wife won't engage me in that same manner, and I cannot broaden my horizons if I don't challenge my viewpoints with opposing ones.

I have the same issue with my wife. She picks a position out of thin air and then refuses to engage me in any rational conversation. Plus, I have found debates to be an effective way of changing or establishing your own point of view.
Before engaging in these conversations several years ago, I thought I was a Republican. Come to find out I'm a liberal Democrat. Go figure.

LOL I found out that I'm a moderate to liberal republican, easily confused with the moderate to conservative democrat.

The good intellectual political/philosophical conversations that are sometime impossible to find in real life with your family, co-workers, and friends because you have this “relationship thing” going on that somehow keeps you from saying how you really feel because you are afraid that you will go to far and really piss someone off. I also find it a good place to try out new ideas to give them a test run before adopting them personally (I love playing devils advocate). And you have no idea how many great paper topics I have gotten from these conversations, thank you TFP.
