Potato Chip Substitute

So I've been trying to watch my diet lately. Nothing too major, just trying to make it not so junky. Anyway, one of my regular lunches consists of a sandwich and chips. I've tried going without the chips but it just feels wrong. So what's a decent substitute that, while isn't necessarily good for you, isn't necessarily bad for you either.
I've switched mostly to baked chips, pretzels, and Sun Chips, but I don't know if that really makes much of a difference. Are these not as bad as plain old grasy chips? Are they better but still bad? Got any suggestions for some good substitutes?

You could try grabbing a piece of fresh fruit, like a banana or apple instead perhaps? I know they do make fat free pretzels, so maybe something like that is what you're looking for.

Baby carrots are good if you don't want to do any prep work. Just open the bag and eat, like chips, and chunchy like chips too. My roommate freshman year decided to lose thirty ponds and got addicted to them.

I used to find dry-roasted peanuts went well with sarnies... might not be much less fat in them but it's probably a better kind of fat at least

Apple or banana chips?

I know what you mean- a sandwich does not work alone. Try yogurt- you can get the kind that is virtually fat free, it is very filling, and no preparation is required.

Plus, calcium is good for you, and can help you lose weight.

Baked should be better than fried greasy chips. The oil has a lot of trans fatty acids in them, which is probably one of the worse things you could eat.

What you're looking for with a diet really is getting your calorie intake down to x10 your body weight and balance between your proteins carbs and fats. To put it as simply as I can.

Fresh fruit, raw veggies, or if you want the chip type you could try pork skins.

Wha?
Pork skins are less fatty than chips? Interesting....
Well thanks for the advice thus far. I'll definitely look into the baby carrots and these apple and banana chips.

I would have to say that pickles would be the best substitute. They are good for you, low in calories and just as salty as chips.

Or you could try cutting back in other areas of your normal meals and still enjoy your potatoe chips. If you wanna try different chips, just look at the calories.

You can also do an internet search for Daily Calorie Allowance and see how many calories you should eat in a day to maintain your weight. They categorize it by height and age.

Then you just count how many calories you eat. Im sure you can fit in those potatoe chips if you make other sacrafices.

Snack Substitutes

Almonds. Dry roasted, no oil are a good choice.

Pickles are also required with any sandwich!! Especially if it's a hoagie or an italian hero.

Given the choice between a lunchtime sandwich with no chips and running around the block once more or doing 20 extra push-ups a day, I'll take the chips!

Baby carrots are key too, good one iccky! I forgot those when I went to the store today. But I got a hoagie and salt & vinegar chips, too.

I don't know if you have the time to do this, but I love my homemade chips recipe.

Take a potato, wash it, and then microwave it for five minutes or so. Slice it into thin slices, fat wedges, or however you like your chips- cover a pan with aluminium (sprayed with Pam), salt the potato slices, and stick them in an 350 degree preheated oven and then wait until they look brown and crispy.

You can eat them with ketchup and they're super good.

That would be fine without the ketchup, potato's are great unless you fry them or douse them in butter. Ketchup has a little bit more sugar than you want on a diet too, which even if you're doing half assed should still not include any sugar.

A big dill pickle's good. Personally, when sweet breath isn't a priority, I have several green onions/scallions with my lunch. Adds to the taste of the sandwich, gives you something else to chew on, and is definitely low-cal.

Packet of chips is over 200 calories. Sun chips and other substitutes which have less oil might be lower, but still not all that low.

check out the organic section of your local supermarket. I've tried some organic potato chips and such, and they are pretty decent. I don't remember what they were called though.

I usually eat my sandwhich with an 'Oatmeal to go' or some raw peanuts and raisings mixed together.

When I started lifting weights I simply decided to cut out chips, chocolate, pop, etc...it was pretty easy for me personally..

What about stove top popcorn?
Just throw a few tablespoons of kernels in a sauce pan, add a tablespoon of olive oil and start shaking with the heat on high. You can get tons of popcorn seasonings that have 0 calories, just watch your salt intake and NO BUTTER!
Fresh popcorn is low in calories/fat and has 6grams of dietary fiber per serving.

I had to cut out ALL chips, breads, pasta, and POTATOES. They are entirly way too high in carbs. Oh and rice too.

26g of carbohydrates in a baked potato, that's well under the limit for eating something before it's stored as fat.

Unless you're one of the low carb fans. In that case all I can say is carbs are good for you.
