Should those seeking to lose weight use Protein bars?

I'm trying to drop down to a normal weight level with a good amt of cardio and strength training.

I know that a lot of people choose to eat a good source of protein during/after a workout to gain muscle mass, but I have plenty of fat on my body - someone told me that thats all I need to feed my muscles. True?

Protein is needed to build and maintain muscle mass. I would guess that you probably don't need to be supplementing your diet with protien bars though. If you are overweight and your goal is to lose fat, then you need to reduce your calories. A lot of protien bars and supplements are very high in calories because they are designed for people who want to add mass; you want to lose it. I would suggest reducing your portion sizes and making an effort to eat leaner. Eat chicken and fish instead of beef and pork etc. good luck

I'm doing good then.
I have only been eating fish and chicken for the past 3 years... and this past year even chicken has become rather unappealing.
But every time I go mountain biking or jogging, I have a protein bar afterwards with the idea that it will help my muscles grow... but I think the calories involved reverse any benefit.

put it this way - I doubt you need the extra protein. If you were weight training quite hard you might want more protein, if you're mainly trying to get fit I wouldn't bother, just eat sensibly.

how far do you run/cycle, and how often, and what strength training do you do?
