Can cats grow thier claws back?
Im worried about Benny. He is very old and i found one of his claws recently. Can he grow it back?
|
i would assume their like fingernails... they can grow back unless the root where they grow from is damaged...
but i dont know for sure... |
I don't know if they can if they fall off completely, maybe it's just like old people losing their teeth. I wouldn't worry too much, maybe call a vet. They're bound to know if it's normal or not.

Yeah they grow back.
Cats shed their old claws (as far as I know ;)!), like snakes do skin which is probably what you found. Their new claws are growing underneath you see, and every once in a while the top layer gets scraped off. But yeah, cats should still have them as they get older, I had a very old cat and she still had all her claws, her eyesight was a different matter :( |
Thanks people.

so long as it's not been declawed.. yes they will shed etc.
|
Oh yeah, I found a claw shell from my cat once, now I remember. It was hollow though, and it was obvious that it was an old claw. Check your cat's claws, see if any are missing. I'm betting one of them is just a tad smaller.

yes, it will grow back, no worries. FYI even when declawed, if not done properly, they can grow back and cause problems to the animal.
