Gritty Neck Feeling.
Alright, so this has happened to be a few times before, but not often.
All of today (it's only 10h16), I've been moving my neck around and there is this nasty sound that is the result. It sounds like there is sand in the nape of my neck and its scraping around there. Does anyone know what this is? Advice? |
no advice for ya...
but i have felt that before. it doesn't hurt really, but it is a bit unsettling. it kinda reminds me of that feeling you get when you're swimming and someone taps the bottom of the pool with their toenails. ya kinda "hear" it in your neck. ok... i'm weirding myself out here. |
You mean it sounds like your neck is doing a "snap, crackle. pop" as you roll your head around? If so, mine does that too. Only noticed it recently. But i kind of like it. :D

My mom says it's pockets of lymph and that a good massage helps move the lymph out. Whatever it is a good massage always feels good.

It's not popping, no. It sounds like there is sand that is rubbing against a rock...only at the bottom of my back neck.
|
Kinda like a bone on bone sound... that's probally not good...
|
Its gone now. But it was there for a few hours. Scares me. Someone at school said it could be a displaced disk thats rubbing.

I've gotten that feeling before....I think the 'sand in the neck' description was adequately put.
It usually came about because I had done a lot of neck cracking in the past few days. If it ever comes about, I take it as a sign that I need to stop for a few days and then it goes away again. Since the human skeleton regrows itself over time, I'm assuming that whatever bone I ground up from so much cracking has been recycled and my spine has allowed itself to regrow back to its normal shape. So anyway....if you get that feeling I would suggest holding off on irritating or aggressively moving your neck for a while until things settle. Worked well enough for me. |
i get that all the time, and if i dont move it around and'crack' it, my neck starts to ache until i do. i need to do it about every 30-45 mins.
a doctor told me a while ago that it was just excess gases or fluids building up and needing to be released, and that as long as it doesnt hurt its ok. somewhat annoying, however, to have to roll my neck around and snap it from side to side every half hour.... |
Stop eating sand...
