does anyone know anything about rollerblades?

well, i bought a very expensive pair, a few years ago. and they were fast and great. but, then they got slow, so i went and bought new bearings (apec 5), and wheels. well, now, they won't even roll when you put weight on them. i ahve tried 10 differant places here, including the skating rink, and noone knows...i also wanted to know if the apec 7's were really that much faster, or if my wheels, were the problem

Did you screw them in too hard? Might want to try loosening it up, I did that with my skateboard once.

It definitely sounds like they were overtightened. Or you bought wheels that were too big for your blades and they're rubbing on the housing.

ABEC7 spins faster than ABEC5 in your hand, but many ABEC5 bearings use a kind of grease that heats up as you ride and they're ALMOST as fast as the 7's.

I have 5's and 7's and I usually use my 5s because they're cheaper to replace, and my abec7's are almost impossible to open and clean, so I only use them on tracks or clean trails.

Try spraying some wd-40 on the bearings.

oh... it hurts!

Don't spray WD-40 on the bearings. It'll collect dust and make them clog up much quicker than if you use proper grease.

And truthfully they should be sealed-type bearings so you should only lubricate them when open. Although sometimes I toss a little dot on the opening in the hopes it will get sucked in. Then I wipe it off.

Well I only say because my friend used it on his hockey-style blades, and after a few months, they had seized up so bad that one game he was pretty much walking.

It is quite possibly due to sub-par components. I never bothered to ask, as he wasn't a close friend. And, well, kind of an ass.

it could just be that one of the bolts through the wheels has broken, but i would think someone would have noticed that, although it did happen to me once and sent me ass over head

well, i went and got new skates...after a very eventful 3 days, that showed me, that my relationship with my old skates was over. i put in the abec 7's and on day 1, a bolt popped out and the wheel fell off...so, i went and bought a new bolt, and then on day 2, the tread on the front wheel ripped off...so i went and got new wheels...and on day 3 the ankle strap snapped in half...so , after $80 wasted and 3 near death experiances...i went and bought new skates. which are fabulous

WD-40 is a lubricant, not a grease. In theory, if you sprayed your bearings every time you used them, you'd be ok. I used to open, grease and repack my abec-9's on my rollerblades about once a month. You can get a repacking kit for like $15 bucks, and it only takes MAYBE 30 minutes for all 16 bearings.
