So I've been an independent student for 3 years without a problem.. all of the sudden I transfer to a University across the country and they decide to let me know at the end of my first semester that I shouldn't have received financial aid.

I turn in everything they need.. but they say I am missing one piece of paperwork.. a letter from a professional that had SOMETHING to do with the events surrounding me being an independent student.

Mind you this all happened 10-12 yrs ago.. I call the police and they say they only hold onto records for 7 yrs... so I call CPS and they say I have to write to the DA.. I write to the DA to find it may be a year or so before I hear back from them.

So my school is telling me that if I don't get this professionals' letter to them by tomorrow that they will pull the financial aid they gave me this year and I will owe them an extra $8,000 on top of the $800 I already am paying them.

I have had no luck getting in touch with anyone that had anything to do with these circumstances and I'm not even sure if my old teacher will write this letter for me.

I am just not sure what to do but wanted to post about it because I am very upset.

I wish I knew how to get out of this.

8 grand, huh... Sounds expensive. I never get did financial aid as I'm too white and my daddy made too much money (even though I didn't live with or was supported b him). I can tell you this, though...I've doctored many documents with graphics programs and a good copy shop. I'm not suggesting anything and I really don't understand your situation but man, i feel for you. I've been jerked around a few times and when push comes to shove, I make do. you will to. Keep your head up and options open. You'll figure it out.
