"My Friend Went to Japan and all I Got Was This Stupid...."

Okay, a friend of mine is in the Marine Corps and just happens to be in Japan for a few months longer. He keeps insisting that he wants to bring something back for me. With the curtious "you don't have to get me anything" line I think it would be pretty awesome to get something from Japan. Although I have no idea what. He has continues to insist that he will.

Anyone have any ideas? Suggestions? Please keep in mind he's a Marine, working with a Marine salary and that means: not much. So, just remember he doesn't have alot to spend.

Thanks..

it may be hard to transport... but i'd ask for some of those distinctive paper lanterns they have. they're beautiful, inexpensive and a good souveneir from that part of the world because you seldom see things like that here in the states.

I second this idea. They look really nice and the traditional ones fold up so they're almost flat -- easy to transport.

How, prey tell, is this going to help me? I'm not interested in women, and uh..... I kinda doubt she'd be happy to move into a lower class home in the center of a corn field. lol

Have him bring back interesting candies. I know one of the more talked-about things I brought back from Australia was musk-flavored Life Savors. Who knows what they have in Japan that we'd consider bizarre.

Paper lanterns are definitely very fun... If you're into eating the asian food, asking for a pair of chopsticks would be a unique gift, and they're just about everywhere. he can find a pair to fit any budget, since they're staple silverware over there.

He said he's sending me a black scroll with a tiger on it, some Japanese money, pictures and a few other odds and ends.

He also told me he was going to send me money from Korea, Thailand, and Iraq.

I tlaked to him a short time ago and he said he's mailing it out today(in Japan it's Monday).

Sounds pretty awesome, take a picture of the scroll and show it to us when you get it! The money from different countries will be interesting as well.
