my friend

I have a friend a very good friend that i know for a fact will be moving away in about a year and a half. I have a second friend that i know will be in town for a long time. my question should i stop spending with the friend that i know will be leaving so that i can spend more time with the friend that is going to be in town.

If you have to ask that question, then you should be asking how good of a friend YOU are.

You're thinking about this as if it was a business decision -- should you switch "investments" between friends (in time, this case) for the best long-term yield? But as Shakran implies, this is not the basis on which real friendships are formed.

Put it to you this way: if you did stop seeing your friend and he asked you why, imagine yourself saying,

"Well, you aren't going to be around next year and I need to build my relationships with friends who can support me in the long-term. You can't do that, so I can't afford to see you anymore. I've got to think about my future."

What would he think of you for saying that?

well stated and shines the light on the reality of the choice.

I'm kinda having the same issue. I have two best friends. One is in the military and will be assigned a station next january. My other friend is moving two hours away the fall after next.

I'm terrible at making friends, so the future doesn't look so promising. But I will have graduated next May, so maybe the job and a new location will help give me different options.
