Is there a doctor in the house?
What causes brain freezes? Is there anything I can take to not have them anymore? I love margaritas but just recently I've been getting more and more brain freezes and they are more intense than in years before. Why would they get worse or more frequent?

if i remember correctly, a brain freeze is where the blood temperature is lowered slightly by a cold drink/food. the chilled blood from the stomach travels around the body giving the chilling sensation, and at the brain it causes a much bigger effect due to lots of nerves.
same principle to drinking a hot drink for hypothermia, warms the blood back up. may be wrong, but i think i'm right:p |
I don't know how accurate this information is but it does make sense. Maybe there's something there that will help ya.

We always made sure we put the offending article, that is, the glass or bowl in the palm of our hands. Fully palming the surface with cold, your head should qiut aching almost instantaneously.

Wow mr sticky I never knew that trick before. That should come in handy many times over.

The brain-freeze is from the overstimulation of the Vegas nerve that runs down into your esophogus and into your stomach.
When stimulated by a cold solid/liquid it sends a pain into your head that can be literally 'stunning.' -SF |
