April 23rd through the 25th i will be going to chicago w/ ze girlfriend.

So i ask you, my fellow TFP'ers, what is there to do. We are 19/18 years old, so no drinkign in bars for us. We will have about 250 dollars each to spend on stuff, over the weekend. (Gas, food, hotel have already been figured, that is the leftover $)

We are pretty open to anything. If you need more info, just ask.

Definately go to the observation deck at the Sears tower! The view is magnificent. Also, plan a lunch at Ed Debevics. It's a 50's theme restaurant where the waiters and waitresses throw insults at the customers, so be prepared with some good comebacks. The waiters and waitresses also get up and dance every once in a while. Chicago is a great town. I'll be there on business the week after you're there and can't wait!

Walk the Miracle Mile on Michigan ave from the river up to
Water Tower Place....just don't spend any money there. If you are short on cash, try the Art Institute. You could spend a week in there and not see everything. The Field, Shedd, and Science and Tech museums are all among the best you will find in this country, as well as the Art museum. Near the Tribune Tower and Wrigley building take the stairs down under Michigan Ave and find Billy Goats Tavern for a hamburger. It is the dive that was the model for the old 70's SNL skit: Cheezborger, Cheesborger. Chips no fries. Pepsi not Coke!

Greytone pretty much summed it up. Shedds Aquarium is the shit. They got water shows and lots to see. I also like to eat at Benihanas. Its one of those" cook'em up in front of you" Japanese joints. Its on Superior & Michigan Ave.

ya know what's sad.. I live two and a half hours from Chicago and I've only been there twice, once with my school, so I didn't get to do much and the other time for two hours at a greyhound bus station....

If its a nice day, take a stroll on Navy Pier, ride the huge ferris wheel there. Not sure if any of the boat tours will be operating in April, but if they are that's a nice way to view the city. The Wendella boat tour boards pretty close to the Billy Goat, Michigan Ave at the Chicago River. Other boat tours board on Navy Pier.

Don't go to Sears or Hancock observation decks. Go to the bar at the top of the Hancock building - buy a drink for about 8-12 dollars (same price as observation deck) and enjoy the window seat view. Best at sunset of course.

Oh, the burgers at the Billy Goat Tavern are awesome. It's around 9 bucks for a triple cheezborger ( which is huge) a coke (no pepsi) and a bag of chips. It's underneath Michigan avenue by the Tribune Tower and Wrigley building,; very close to the Chicago river. Then there is a big metal statue for some war hero, there are stairs that lead down to the lower wacker drive. Down there is the place. Turn around and look for a sign and happy people. It's in there. I reccomend this along with a trip to the Art Institute in a day's trip. Good luck.

hehe, come visit me

Actually, being from around Chicago and living here now, I haven't the slightest idea where one would be interested in going when they visit...much like when I was in Vienna the people I stayed with there really had no idea generally speaking what to show me.

All the recommendations here are great. I hear the restaurant at the top of the Hancock actually has a buffet lunch or something like that. Supposed to be pretty good. There are a TON of museums. Besides the ones mentioned, there's also a cool museum of contemporary art, etc. Definitely gotta take a look at the water tower - one of two surviving structures from the Chicago fire. The other is a nearby firehouse.

If you like steak you must go to Gibsons. I have no idea what street it's on, I went there last year with my Dad and sister. Best steak I've ever had.

gibson's on rush st....good call, averett. pricey, but i've never had steak that good anywhere else.

go to the corner of north, damen, & milwaukee ave. if you'd like to avoid the majority of tourists. art galleries, record stores, second-hand stores and not a chain store in sight.

crystal method, the strokes, anna fermin's trigger gospel (local) and about 263 blues bands will be in town on your weekend if music's yer bag.........

Go to little India on Devon and Western. It's cool to get to check out the indian grocery stores, bakeries, clothing, and (of course) restaurants.

Agreed, this area is great. Just get off the Blue Line and you are right there. Go right and you are in Wicker Park, go left and it's Bucktown. (I suggest left)

Recommend eating @ Bistro 110 and/or the restaurant in the lobby of the Drake - the red snapper soup is off the hook.

Well, the trip was great. We stayed in Club Quarters in downtown. We had a 36th floor room. (38 total floors...bling.)

We visited a pleasantly trash area in the northern part of the city, Belmont street was the big thing there, had a lot of second hand stores, and a few really cool "gothy" stores.

Downtown was great, and all the typical places. House of Blues was pretty sweet, as was the Art museum. Great trip, im lookin forward to goin again. Thanks for all the advice again.

Indian food (check out the Viceroy of India) on Devon is great.
I had the best loin of lamb EVER in greektown (just west of the sears)
Go to a cubs game!
Belmont and Clark are great streets for shopping, with cheaper and more interesting stuff than the mag mile
Up in Wilmette (just hop on the train or drive north) we have one of the seven Ba'hai temples in the world! check it out!
