how to figure out a training plan?
okay, this for any of you guys that work as personal trainers, etc (plan9, i'm looking in your general direction)...
when you're with a client, how do you determine what exercises they do, frequency, intensity, speed, etc. for them to work at? i'm trying to figure out a workout plan for myself, and i want to do more than just "run for 30 minutes or 2 miles". thanks HH |

Hi hannukah harry - There is a wealth of information for people just starting out and some of it can be confusing. I found the structure of a beginners approach to fitness offered by Bill Phillips to be great for someone just starting out.
The motherhood and applie pie of his philosophy on this topic can be found here: http://www.bodyforlife.com/ The specifics on an approach for men's training can be found here: http://www.bodyforlife.com/train_mens.shtm Hope this helps. ![]()

It all depends what body type you are, have you been active in the past and if so how long ago. What do you want to accomplish from this program. Do you have any injuries that need to be worked around. If you give me a little more info. I could help you out quite easily. I used to set up programs for people all the time. I took the personal trainer course. But ya a little more info and it will be no problem helping you out.

Also We must be made aware of of all medications the client ingest and also know what impact on the training process it will have as well. If we are unsure of special considerations in dealing with a particular problem or disease we discuss with a physician (usually theirs) on any special considerations regarding that particular issue. When evaluating somebody we also take into consideration the clients goals. We have to evaluate the person's posture, balance, stability, mobility, and strength during the first few sessions in order to get a good idea on where they stand physically. These are just some of the things in which we do when starting off with a new client, which is why sometimes I am tentative in giving advice here on the forums because I do not know enough about each one of you and could possibly be giving the wrong advice at times. This is also why sometimes I react harshly in correcting some people who like to throw out answers quickly without thinking of the possible repercussions of the advice that they give. Hope that helps. Sorry, I have been sort of taking a break from the health forums the past few weeks ![]() Last edited by Plan9Senior; 02-25-2004 at 01:20 PM.. |
