Getting 2000 ish calories in a day
Does anyone else have a problem with hitting 2 k calories in a day? Im dieting right now so it isnt a issue however, Im almost always completely full throughout the day yet, im still only at about 1600 calories im not sure how Im going to get to 2400 ish in a day when I weightlift more. All I eat now are fruits/veges and meats (tuna, chicken, etc). No matter how hard I try I cant seem to consume 2000 + calories in a day without relying on unhealthy things like chips etc.
Anyone got any advice? I try and plan my meals out ahead but even then its a pain. It isnt really a issue yet since im dieting but its a pain to find foods that aren't totally terrible for you to gain extra calories to hit your daily value. |

If you are too full to eat another meal, I would suggest getting a weight gainer/protein mix, that you could easily add a few scoops to a small glass of milk to reach your desired caloric level. Get those extra calories from good sources though, you don't want to go grab some fries or something like that.

You also start having to incorporate higher calorie dense foods to snack on throughout the day such as nuts. Actually, worry about this when you are off your diet. There are all kinds of ways to add extra healthy calories onto your current foods to put on some clean mass . You have to remember. When you are off of your diet, you will be able to lift heavier weight and your body will be a lot hungrier then it is now because it will need to food for repair etc.

I think even with the maximum calories taken out of my BMR for diet I don't go under 2000 calories. I'm a young fellow, I workout 6 days a week and work a full time, physical job though.
Someone posted this for me earlier: http://forums.menshealth.com/thread....5&thread=66900 It helped quite a bit, you guys sure you're supposed to be at 2000 calories a day?

i use a great weight gainer shake formula plus the following ingredients to make a shake:
cup of whole milk (200 calories - 9 g protein) strawberries (100 calories) half a banana (75 calories) a few scoops of ice cream (250 calories - 3 g protein) add the weight gainer (500 calories - 25 g protein), and you have a great high protein, high vitamin, crazy calorie (over 1100!) shake that tastes good and is a great way to end the night (and goes down easy even if you arent that hungry) -alec |

Plan9, you mentioned earlier that there were some foods that were high-calorie, but also very healthy. Could you possibly mention a few more of them? I've been snacking on nuts, but I'm curious what else is out there.
I've been working out a lot, but am having trouble adding more calories to my diet. Last edited by obsvr; 02-13-2004 at 02:59 PM.. |

Not sure how much it will help but what I eat in a day:
Tuna Chicken Bananas Random meal for dinner depends >< Im getting like 1100 calories in a day which is bad so any way to add more would be nice, but im only eating 2 cans of tuna and chicken combined in a day to avoid high cholestrol/mercury |

I'm currently doing the weight gain thing, and I take in about 2500-3000 calories a day. I eat quite a lot of fresh fruit, protien shakes, and occasionally natural peanut butter and whole wheat sandwiches. It's worked fairly well so far (20 lbs in 5ish months), and still increasing. Start cooking for yourself also. It's an easy way to make a calorie filled meal (but again, not too much at once), and you can make enough for several meals at a time.
I also try to space my eating to every 2-3 hours, and never try to stuff myself during each meal. |
