Bali
Bali was truley the most amazing place I've been. Hit it for three weeks on a south pacific surf/work trip. There was just something in the air, some unspoken magic.
It was really intense because not even a year after I'd been back, the Sari Club, a cool three story bar in the main part of the island was attacked. Australians called it their 9/11 because so many aussies visit Bali. I had been in there during my time and hung out with so many cool people from all over. I hope bali can recover |

bali was the most cool place ever. Stayed in Ubud on the other road, and used to get up and eat breakfast while watching the peasants at work in the rice fields. Felt like a colonialist

well, i wouldn't go so far as to say that Bali is the most amazing place i've been to.
but it certainly was memorable. Lucifer, i stayed in Ubud about a month ago. lovely place, beautiful and much less crowded than the south (denpasar and kuta). i also stayed a few nights on the north coast at a place called Lovina. i wouldn't recommend this to others. the famed black sand beaches were filthy. i'm talking rubbish and even syringes on the sand (plus, there was absolutely no surf whatsoever). and there really wasn't much to offer the average tourist there. we do call the sari club bombing our 9/11. the memorial in kuta to those lost in the attack is quite moving. and that hole in the ground where the sari club used be, well, you understand. the post-attack depression that has struck Bali is absolutely horrible. for a people who rely so much on the tourism dollar to be attacked like that is/was devastating. i don't think i'll go back to Bali for a very long time.
