Uh, I am not sure, but it sounds like ... weird. If its not true, which I think that it is not, then it makes sense. But if it is.. weird shit!
It almost seems too random to NOT make sense, but then again.

I read awhile back about some study done that just the action of eating an apple will provide as much of a pick-me-up as a cup of coffee will via caffeine. I can't remember where or anything else of it, so take it as you will...

I also have found that eating anything with a strong flavor (e.g. several altoids at once) can help as a pick-me-up when dozing in class is imminent.

My Apple iMac used to keep me up all night, but it started having monitor problems.
It's the sugar. A lot of it is as the monosaccharide fructose, so it can go straight from your stomach lining to the bloodstream in few minutes to fuel those tired cells. Sucrose (table sugar) is a disaccharide and must be processed first, taken 30 minutes to an hour before it is ready.

yep. My father (a doctor) passed me an article saying that an apple will wake you up more than coffee will, because of the sugars and because the chewing action wakes you up somehow. Sorry I can't be more specific, it was a while ago. But I am a firm believer in it, and I take an apple with me every morning to eat on the way to class and it works great!
