How can I make myself sleep with my mouth closed?
I always sleep with my mouth wide open. This is not good because I drool and it also gives you bad breath. I always breathe with my nose and keep my mouth shut during the day, but I always sleep with it open. I was thinking about using a peice of duct tape to keep my mouth closed, but the glue and tape itself would be very bad for the skin. Any other ideas?

Also that would be dangerous if you had nasal problems. I wouldn't worry about it. Your health isn't at risk with it. If you're that concerned you could try the breathing strips used on the nose so you can get more air through.
|
What is strange is that I dont have any problem breathing through my nose. I think it would just be nice if I didnt have to brush my teeth 3 times in the morning to get everything to feel nice and fresh.
Also, if I did have a clogged nose and my mouth was taped shut would I just die or would I wake up in a panic blowing snot all over the place? |
I normally sleep with mouth closed, but with said clogged nose I do sleep with it open, which I hate. Mouth dries out, I have to peel my lips off my teeth.

HAH, probably the latter, but either way it wouldn't be to comfortable... |
If you did ahve trouble breathing while sleeping it would probably mean a bad night of sleep for you- you'd wake up often (you'd stop breathing and your body would go into an alert mode waking you up), and most likely feel really tired when you finally get up even if you had plenty of "rest".

I sleep with my mouth open too. Anyone?
|
Well your body wouldn't let you die. You would wake up, but I doubt it would be pretty. My dad has sleep apnea (sp) where his throat closes on him during his sleep so he wakes up during the night and opens it. Your body doesn't go out without a fight.

open here too, well I think, can't really tell, sometimes it's dry but sometimes not. I don't really notice :P
|
Mmm I get this occasionally, I used to all the time. Try concentrating on going to sleep with your mouth closed, I did this and it helped a little.

My doctor thinks I might have sleep epnia. I woke up a few weeks ago in the middle of the night, and couldnt breathe. I was in such a panic that I couldn't remember why I couldn't breathe, but trust me when I say, dont mess with it. Breathing strips are fine, but don't close of an air passage. Its one of the most helpless feelings in the world, and was not fun.

Thanks, I thought that looked wrong! Hadn't even heard of it until the doctor said it, and he has a pretty thick accent, so I just guessed.
|
I used to sleep with my mouth open, it was miserable. Always drooling or having a dry mouth. Eventually, for a huge under bite I had, I had jaw surgery, and that corrected the problem. I just wasn't able to make a good seal with my lips when asleep.
|
I hate waking up with my tongue feeling like sandpaper, the roof of my mouth and throat dry. And having a string of drool from the corner of my mouth soaking my pillow. All my life I have this problem.
Also I read somewhere that the average person swallows 4 spiders a year that crawl into your mouth while sleeping, becuase your mouth is so warm and moist. |
I have this problem when I go to bed and am DEAD tired. If I am getting an ok amount of sleep, it tends to go away.

it's possible to get a "bideskinne" here in Denmark.. I can't find the proper translation of that word but it's a bit like the stuff that boxers put in their mouth to protect their teeth during a fight. Try ask your doctor if it's possible to get this thing in the States as well.. :D
|
or try your local pharmacy store...? :D
