$28 Gym Fee

Do you guys think that is a good price? We have 2 gyms where I live...one @ $28 a month and one at $500+ a year cuz they are state wide open 24hours. I do have access to free gym but it's 45 min away and the gas would slay me as far as money cost.

I wanna start going so I can bulk up. I'm 6'2" and 180 lbs. I have a gut, but I am able to get away with hiding it and looking good at the same time. I told my friend who plays football for Minnesota that I want to look good in UnderArmour by this summer.

I think my main reason for motivation is every girl I know talks bad about how their past B/F treated em like shit and I'm like "Where's He at...I'll teach him a lesson" of course I get the response of "No you won't dear, He's bigger than you."

This is me being done ranting. Any Advice What-So-Ever would be greatful...you know work out ideas n stuff.

Well, if $28 will keep you going every month then go for it. I am not familiar with Alaska, but it is a little cheaper for a membership down here in California. This might be due to the fact that there are so many health clubs in competition here. My suggestion would be to even look into buying your own equipment to have at home. Its makes those "I was too lazy or too busy to drive to the gym today" excuses null and void .

As far as the price you are quoted... does this force you into a certain location or certain days/times? There are many factors into how much they will charge you. Make sure to get all the info.

$28, and cheaper in Cali? Wow. I thought Cali was an expensive place to live... or is that only the San Fran area?

California IS an expensive place to live, but they have some very nice health clubs for 24 hr fitness to compete with so they couldn't survive by charging a high fee when they cant offer what the superior clubs do. I believe it is about 12-20 a month (depending on when you signed up) for 24 hr fitness here.

Over here, LA Fitness, Ballys, Private Clubs, amongst others have a lot more to offer and are a lot nicer then 24 hr fitness

If you know what you're doing you can get away with a good squad rack and a bench...you can do every base muscle workout with those.

Actually, my advice wouldn't be as much weight lifting as it would be doing some cardio type workouts. If you have that gut or you're a big guy or what not thats what will get rid of it, not weight lifting. Jump rope or jog for a while, and if you want those big arms do some bench with light weight and high reps. Practice holding at the top and slowly bringing the bar back down everytime you do it. before you know it you'll be all puffy and nice lookin

Totally wrong. Weight lifting burns as much calories, if not more in some cases, than cardio.

A combination of both is the best way to lose fat, but lifting weights will burn off those calories just as good as jogging

Muscles will continue to burn calories, as they are repaired after your workout. So, quite often, they're better than a cardio seesion, depending on duration and such.
Although a 3 hour session of streetball (basketball) is a pretty tight workout

A good brisk one hour walk each day will save you that $28 per month.

The average gym membership is about $45. But it doesn't matter what you pay as long as they have good facilities and equipment and you use it...it is cheaper to pay $100 an month and go then pay $25 a month and sit at home.

$28 is pretty good. I pay much more than that. But you also have to consider the 'extras' you may or may not be getting. Pool, sauna, etc. I am paying $40 but I got the extras, I'm needing the extras as I get older.
