VERY important RE: Gay Marrage.
http://www.afa.net/petitions/marriagepoll.asp
--- forwarded message --- The American Family Association has decided to try and "prove a point" by having a poll on their website for folks to take about their opinion on gay marriage. They intend to present the results of this poll to the United States Congress in an attempt to instate a federal law against Gay Marriage. It's obvious that they think that this poll will come out in their favor, and that the vast majority of people will vote to keep marriage for traditional couples only. I ask you all to please visit http://www.afa.net/petitions/marriagepoll.asp and let your opinion be heard. It takes about 45 seconds, and it is SUCH an important topic. Whether you are gay or straight, conservative or liberal, your opinion matters, and you NEED to vote here. The only folks who were even made aware of it's existence were the people on the AFA's mailing list and the people who happened to wander across their website. They have absolutely every intention of presenting this poll in the form of a petition to congress against gay marriage. I wonder if they will still present it when the YAYs outweigh the NAYs? PLEASE let your voice be heard. |

I voted in favor of the Civil Union. Not surprisingly, those opposed to gay marriage/civil union blew those in favor out of the water. The results of the poll will be skewed just by the mindsets, and the very nature of the types of people that will gravitate toward that site.
It's a noble thing that you are endeavoring here, Banginblaz. But I fear that it's going to take a whole hell of a lot more than just the votes that we can garner here. I would, however, be interested to see if The American Family Association will still present the results of this poll to the United States Congress if the results do not go their way.

Well, I voted in favor of marriage, but like Bill said, the results will be skewed because of the type of people who gravitate toward the site or who were notified of the poll.

I passed this around to some friends, and sent it in to moron.org. If Morons posts it, their results will probably be very much at odds with their expectations.
Let's take the fun out of fundamentalism, shall we?

Please, like anybody would give this crappy poll any credence. It's deeply unscientific. All it says is what the people who visited their site think. What do they think this is supposed to prove? Morons.

Well, as of yesterday, the Pro Marriage line was at about 37%. Today, it's over 46% and anti marriage has dropped below 50%.
Here's the <a href="http://www.afa.net/petitions/SummarizePoll.asp">Summary of results</a>. Keep up the pressure! Tell your friends.

Anything that implies that public opinion goes one way or the other is "valid" proof in Congress, lurkette. Like any form of "proof", one side will hold it up as testament, the other will shoot it down as falsehood.
I'm putting my vote in the hat, just so that they don't have this "proof" to wave around. |

edit: as of now, "I favor legalization of homosexual marriage" leads 48% to "I oppose legalization of homosexual marriage and 'civil unions'" 43%. Keep up the good work people. Last edited by phaedrus; 12-19-2003 at 12:07 PM.. |

At last check the tally was 66.28% in favor of either gay marriage, or a civil union, with 33.73% opposed. I have to say that I am surprised by that. Behold, the power of the internet, indeed.
I still, however, would be very interested to see if The American Family Association will still present the results of this poll to the United States Congress as the results are not going their way. On a final note; I received this in my inbox this morning, and thought that I would share it with you all... Quote:

59.72% in Favor of full marriage deal.
8.25% in Favor of Civil Union with full benefits (marriage without calling it "marriage") 32.03% against both homosexual marriages and Civil Unions. This is hilarious, and I can't wait to hear the news about them suddenly deciding not to show it to congress. |

I oppose legalization of homosexual marriage and "civil unions" 32.00%
(200708 votes) I favor legalization of homosexual marriage 59.75% (374806 votes) I favor a "civil union" with the full benefits of marriage except for the name 8.25% (51754 votes) Shows them what people really think. Unfortunately, considering the letter that is emailed out upon signing, they seem to be deluded beyond help. |
